And yes, you can throw in the Cialis and Viagra commercials too as way out of control. They now casually throw out "when it's time for sex" verbiage in their commercials at 8:00AM. My 8-year-old was having cereal this morning and asked me, "What's with the bathtub on the beach with the naked old people in it holding hands?"

interesting points:
-very, very, very few people actually win. 99% sheep, 1% wolves (or 'whales')
-the industry is wide open to 'insider trading' and has already seen one employee win $300k + using inside info in one weekend.
-house rake is about 10%. iirc this is a LOT more than typical vegas casino takes.
-key to winning is finding out the players who are on a low % of teams (% owned)
-argument is it's not gambling because skill is involved.
-WILL be regulated in the near future by fed/state
-some states already banned
-industry people admit it's a 'stupid tax'

Vegas has been doing this for decades... going even farther back I believe the Chinese emperor invented the "numbers" game (or lottery) to easily tax the millions of citizens...

Yeah... what is up with that? How do you have sex in separate bathtubs anyway... sex in a bathtub is difficult in the first place!

But seriously... I can see why the V and C ads are on programs popular with middle age males (sports) however they pop up (pardon the pun) on some very odd programs.

This is a little different. Apart from the fact that it supposedly depends on your skill, the vig isn't really clear to me. With Vegas or on-line sports betting to can fairly easily know what your odds are and what you can win or lose. You can decide if the entertainment value is worth the possible cost. With these things I have no idea how to calculate that.

I think they mentioned that having a defined prize pool (specific amount) was a key piece to avoiding gambling law troubles.

I totally agree... I only gamble in Vegas... and I only go to Vegas every few years... when I do gamble it is always set aside as "entertainment" money because even in Vegas the house always has an advantage.

I see this new fantasy sports thing (I also have no interest and therefor no experience) as just a (another) high tech way of conning people out of their money.

It's not working. They are banned in 5 states.

I'm going to show a bit of a leftist bent here....

these co's can be global and can pile up more cash than a full on vegas casino group with much, much less overhead and very little regulation. this could be a LOT of money which = a LOT of power in a very few hands in a very short amount of time. I believe it was stated that a couple of these co's are worth north of a BILLION $.

you can buy presidents for less money than that.

I got rid of cable when I realized I was paying to watch commercials...
