Nice score! Looks like it has a Stebro tailpipe - straight out of the MG Mitten catalog!
Do you get to keep the Phillies cap? |
Cool looking car! They're so much better with the early bumpers than the big rubber ones.

What year is that? Looks like a '71 from the grill. Any pictures of the engine and interior?

When I lived in the UK my Dad and I put a 3.5 Rover motor into one with a 5-speed transmission. The V8 actually weighed less than the iron 4 and it made for a nice quick car. My car was a '75 so the engine bay had been already slightly modified to hold the V8 as MG were making the GT version by then. Anything bigger than the Rover motor sort of defeats the point of balance and practicality - if you can call a 45 year old British sportscar practical.
But I think your original point of Porsche prices getting away from normal Joe's is well taken. Maybe fun cars like these will start to become popular again for low cost tinkering. I would not mind making a Sunbeam Tiger replica one day as Alpine's are dirt cheap as are 289 V8s |

I had two of these in the 80's - a red '73 and a blue '74. A big issue was the Lucas connectors that seem to come loose everywhere as well as the fuse box. But, cars are easy to work on and there are tons of parts available. Both my daughter and son learned to drive on the MGs.

Too late to fix it now! :( |
yep a Pirates cap. It's a Monza exhaust. And how English would it be with that 9' 4WT sticking out the top. I had the same thought. Oh how British...
This should be a good project. Even my son is excited about it and has said he will make the 1 hour trip once a month to help me out. That alone makes the purchase price worthwhile. Interesting how many of us had English cars before we went to our Porsches.. |
Yo David - NICE MG!
They say the metal bumper ones are the best so you did good there. I had a g/f with one back in the 80's and it was a blast to drive when running right. Have fun and keep us posted, please.... |
Good looking project. I'll echo Bazza's comments re: the desirable pre-rubber bumper models. I've always had a liking for those & the '69 - '71 TR-6's
Good Luck to ya on your upcoming endeavour. Cheers JB |
Looks like a fun ride!
Are there aftermarket replacement wiring harnesses available? That was the best $350 I've spent on my bug! Took about a weekend total to put in, and no more funky electrical crap going on! |
Nice pick up T-Bird!

Lucas was the common thread. The shoddy workmanship was mostly overlooked, because we had sports cars, and, if they were good enough for Peter Egan, than by god, they were certainly good enough for a couple of hillbillies from Idaho! Can't wait to see the progress! |
nice!
