Heck I've gone out at 1 AM and rolled underneath the car on the creeper just to look at the bottom of the engine. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Ha, when I got the 911 20 years ago I was so excited I couldn't sleep. I was out there doing the 1am thing playing with the switches, loving sitting in that car. The next day the neighbor, a former SIS man, said he saw me sitting in the car out on the street and thought it VERY odd. I told him I'd left my wallet in the car and just remembered it at 1am.

I don't think it's wrong at all.

What is wrong is to come downstairs at 1am to find that your wife is already sitting in the car and then having to negotiate for your own seat time...

Nothing wrong at tall...unless of course it isn't the shifter knob that you are caressing with your hand.
