what type of pistol safe/box for a bedroom ?
My wife and I were having a discussion yesterday after my most recent firearm purchase. And that discussion centered around that all my guns are in a big gun safe. Nothing wrong with that except it is not handy in case of an emergency. So I'm thinking of getting some type of lock box/pistol safe to house two revolvers ( his and hers

I really like the V-Line wall combo box. You can counter sink into the drywall so it's almost flush. It lags from the inside into the side of the stud. If a burglar had a big crowbar and a lot of time, he could break in eventually, but the purpose of this type of gun locker isn't to secure valuables from theft.
The V-Line is a five button push sequence that is VERY easy to do in the dark. I will never own any kind of electronic lock again. I had a digital safe lock once that failed. it took several days before the manufacture could get somebody out to fix it. Replaced it with an old fashioned combo dial. ![]() ![]()

I have a much older version of this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UIKSF54?psc=1
No batteries, positive steps to get the gun out.

In our old house, I had something similar to what Craig posted, but it wasn't for long guns. If fit between 2 studs and was, I think, 16" tall. I had enough room for multiple guns and other stuff too.
It was an Amsec brand, seemed pretty well made, and came in 3 versions of lock, I think, key, dial combination and electronic combination. I think I found it online for about $300. I put it in the back of my closet, so it would normally be "hidden" by hanging clothing. Also, since you have the little ones, it'll be up at a height for you to reach, so more difficult for them. This is what the one that I owned looks like. ![]()

I have a rectangular safe about 12" tall x 18" wide x 18" deep, suitable for multiple handguns and magazines. It has an electronic keypad with key backup. The batteries are going on three years without sounding the low battery alert and it has never failed to open. I think the brand is Safety First.
For just two I would get the small model that can be kept in a nightstand or tethered to a headboard.

I trust only the Simplex-style locks for "small" safes. Biometric and digital combination (e.g. GunVault) safes are way too prone to failure. I speak from painful ($$$) experience.

That V-Line looks pretty good thanks for the suggestion. The more research I do the more I want to stay away from batteries !

I used a keyed lock box. Key is hidden above a door away from the box, box is on a shelf under some clothes in the closet. I keep a Sig 226 in it, loaded magazine but without a round in the chamber. Not as 'hot' as some would like, but given where I live, the chances of ever needing are extremely remote. I'm more concerned with safety.

I prefer the 5 button combo safe in a closet. Easy enough to get into yet reasonably good protection for family and children. I avoid using the word s "gun" and "panic situation" in the same sentence. I prefer hardening the perimeter so there will always be time to fully wake up, get my wits about me, and verify my target before reaching for deadly force. If I must use my weapon, it will be on my terms, not theirs. Perimeter fencing, dogs, motion sensor lighting, cameras, and heavy lock hardware buy a lot of time and give you a tactical advantage.
