Castles Made of Sand, but Wait Until Tomorrow is a close second.

"The Cry of Love" - top to bottom - is one of my favourite albums from Jimi:

It's one of those albums like "Deja Vu" and "Dr. Sardonicus" that you play cover to cover and the songs all mesh in the most wonderous way....

1. "Freedom" 3:24
2. "Drifting" 3:46
3. "Ezy Ryder" 4:09
4. "Night Bird Flying" 3:50
5. "My Friend" 4:40
6. "Straight Ahead" 4:42
7. "Astro Man" 3:37
8. "Angel" 4:25
9. "In From the Storm" 3:42
10. "Belly Button Window"

"Band of Gypsys"....the live album with Buddy Miles on drums that came out before "The Cry of Love" though is also noteworthy:

Surfers of my generation of course remember the movie that came out with Hendrix songs in it, a bunch of hippie stuff, and some cool surfing footage....

While I cannot say without reservation which of Jimi's songs I like the best, his acoustic version of Hear My Train a' Comin will usually stop me in my tracks.

I feel Mr. Hendrix recordings suffered some from a lack of technology, that and that and the electric guitar and associated amplifiers were still being developed.
Yes, I know Les Paul and Leo Fender developed the electric guitar way in advance of Hendrix, but it wasn't until rock and roll took the electric guitar to new levels years later.

Crosstown Traffic. I sing it every time I go through midtown at 4:30 on a Friday.

Flamethrowers on me. I actually prefer cover versions more than the originals of Beatles songs. The Beatles are just not my bag at all.

Hendrix is too sloppy for me, but Little Wing and a couple songs are ok.

One of the coolest things about Jimi was that he could make the guitar sound good even when it was out of tune from heavy trem use.

1: All Along The Watchtower
2: Can You See Me
3: Little Wing - SRV's version is very cool also
4: The Wind Cries Mary

Can't really come up with just one so these are my favourites & not necessarily in this order.

Cheers
JB

Then there are people who call Van Gogh sloppy to. I only wish I could be as sloppy as Hendrix.

Anyway who knows which Hendrix song is my favorite so I chose something obscure. How bout a club jam best entitled "popular favorite" with Jim Morison on lead vocals as heard on "Woke up this morning and found myself dead." .

Then there is some stuff that Hendrix did with Eric Burden and War...lets get down with Jimi and da Funk...

Haha agreed. I'm no music critic and positive that actual musical artists would cringe at my choices. I like classical through country. All genre's save jazz and techno (that viking guy high on meth music).

Beatles - a couple songs with incredible lyrics and music, but hated their voices.
Hendrix - I can't put my finger on it but it all sounds convoluted and nuts. I don't smoke dope so maybe that's it? I acknowledge his guitar wizardness but again none of his songs touch me.

Jethro Tull - from the first note I am looking for another station.
Rush - every single song sounds the same. At one point I liked songs off of Tom Sawyer but they aged quickly and a 3 piece band can only go so far.

My mix tape is very diverse. Some say I have no vision because I love some billboard hit songs. Guilty as charged. I am a son raised by a father that only heard melody, and a mother that cherished lyrics. Only stating the facts here and not challenging anyone.

Edit - perhaps my "fall on sword moment", I do like some Nickelback songs...and Creed. Critics hate them oh well.

I seem to remember a legend that he had a guitar tech that was doing a lot of experimental work on his amp... things that developed into many of our modern day pedals/racks.

Dunno if that was true or legend.

Who Knows or Machine Gun off of the Band Of Gypsys album.

I would say AND rather than OR - these are both at the top of my list. I wore my copy of B of G out the summer it was released. But Voodoo Chile & Voodoo Child (Slight Return) are there as well.

And I vividly but vaguely remember listening to Side 3 of Electric Ladyland on an auto-repeat turntable for eight hours non-stop one strange night in a spooky cottage . . . ;)

Castles Made of Sand (no particular version preference) and Machine Gun from the Band of Gypsies album (I have the 2-disc set, with two versions). Maybe also 'Red House' from Woodstock.
