What is your favorite Joe Cocker original song?

Amazing when you think about how he made a career doing other people's greatest hits.

No - they became greatest hits with him performing them. I saw him live during his comeback in the 80s in Montreux - one of the most memorable concerts in my life.

He wrote "Ain't it High Time We Went", the only song I remember that was not a cover, so it must be my favorite.

The Mad Dog was such an iconic musician and performer. He took great songs and added meat and texture to them until they morphed into something totally fresh and new. We cover a lot of his work in the style of Joe. He also surrounded himself with excellent musicians and managed to squeeze their best work out of them.

This. Saw him in 2008. His 'covers' often charted higher than the originals.

How about the opposite, name a band/performer that never did a cover, all original?

Feeling Alright -- written by Dave Mason(Traffic reached #123 on the US chart). Joe Cocker #33 in 1972)

I'm only superficially familiar with their music, but did Pink Floyd cover other bands?

Even more interesting might be to look into how many people wrote covers for other bands.

How about Neil Diamond? Wrote most if not all of the Monkee's hits.
