So what brand you using ? I see HKS, Safariland, 5 Star as the main players but I'm sure there are others. Do you use these at the range or just for zombie attacks ? Do you like one brand over another ? What caliber you using ? I would primarily be using for a S & W 357 magnum ( 7 shot ) and a 32 S & W ( 6 shot ) . Not sure I need these but trying to get educated on their use.

I have one for the .357 Model 28-2. I will check the brand when I get home. Very positive action on it.

it's his conceal carry. a SL is too bulky.

Vash I believe those are called speed strips. That is another option.

I like the old tried and true HKS. Simple, cheap, intuitive.

Funny, though, I don't think these things were ever meant for concealed carry. I think they are harder to hide than the gun itself, which might sound kinda weird, but they really are. There is no way to carry them, say, inside a waistband. On the outside, they are every bit as bulky as the revolver's cylinder, and not "streamlined" with a barrel that allows one to stuff them in hidden places. I wind up with them in a heavy overcoat's pocket. Or I don't carry one at all, relying on the six rounds in the gun.

I never bring them to the range, since my club does not allow rapid reload drills and, quite frankly, they are a PIA for "normal" reloading. I have never hunted with them either, preferring to put extra rounds in the loops in my gunbelt, or in an Uncle Mike's nylon ammo carrier hung on my belt. That, and I hunt pretty much with single actions anyway.

I think these were great for when every cop in America was armed with a sixgun, and they carried them in plain view in the little pouches on their Sam Brownes. Easy to get to, didn't have to care that people could see them, and really no alternative. They don't work so well for us civilians.

I have a couple of Safarilands, and drew the same conclusions as Mr. Higgins.

HKS are nice. The only time I felt like they were useful was on hunts. It is a good way to keep 6 extra rounds organized in a zipper pocket in the backpack. But not really for speed reloading, just neat storage. Something an ammo pouch would do just as well, if not better.

Your cylinder must be cut for them. I have them in 7-shot .38 (S&W 686+), 8-shot .38 (S&W 627), and 6-shot .45 (S&W 325). They hide pretty well in a DeSantis "Second Six" holster (originally designed as a speedloader pouch) that is a pretty nifty product. It actually splits the rounds over either side of your belt--half inside, half outside. A big help with concealment.

For a J-frame I use speed strips. I haven't gotten around to having any of my J-frames cut for moon clips yet.

Those moon clips look to work great - but unless you have a beater gun, I doubt many are going to machine cylinders!

I personally don't own any, they seem marginally faster than reloading the old fashioned way. I suppose if you practiced with them a LOT then maybe they are faster. Personally I don't grab a revolver for capacity, if there are lots of zombies I have other solutions.;)

I've found that the moon clips work best on the .45 - the short, stubby case and its standardized groove has the least slop, which means a full clip lines up perfectly every time. .357/.38 doesn't have a standardized groove (above the rim) so rounds tend to flop around in the clip. And not all .357/.38 brass fit all clips. It's still better than loading one at a time or using big, bulky speedloaders, but sometimes it takes a little jiggling to get a fresh clip into the cylinder.

Oh, and I can say "clip" and actually be correct. :D

I only use mine for hunting. It saves time as you get out of the vehicle. It is also nice in low light conditions but you can reload in the dark by hand better.
