Not to mix with the affordable 997 thread, but I hope in two years, the 997.2 is around $35k, and I will buy one.

I'm with you (possibly a bit sooner if I can). Problem is, I'm finding they did not make that many 09-10-11s - especially 09s due to the recession. Lots were PDK too. And folks are getting wise to the fact they are the first IMS free, yet still hydraulic steering assist, and still with the correct number of gears on the manual box (6 Fwrd, not 7). As such, they might become classics and I'm not sure they'll drop in the 35s any time soon ( I mena, hell, an SC is 30+ now!)... I kinda hope some genius finds an affordable IMS cure for the 997.1s soon, lots of cars to be had cheap there if the damn thing could be extracted without splitting the case...

What's with the "correct number of gears" bs? The 7th gear is for gas mileage/highway cruising. Actually really nice on the freeway and gets great gas mileage.
I was initially looking for 997.2 but gravitated to 991 due to the interior and exterior design. It's a great car and glad I held out for a 991.

It's a personal thing, should have said "correct for me" - didn't mean to insult your car at all, I believe the 991 is a great chassis and a good looking car...

I like the spacing of the regular 6 box, is all, 7 seems like *a lot* of gears for a stick IMO and exceeds my personal preference/muscle memory... Dunno, I'm not a fan - I did try one - but then again I never took to the 901's dogleg, so to each his own... The 997.2 is the car I lust after... old style hydraulic assist, "more traditional" spacing of gears (I'm good with 6th as an economy gear), no IMS issues.... I would definitely not kick a 991 out of my garage (especially with a duck tail) but my personal sweet spot in price and tech is a 997.2, to keep company to my 72. GLad you're enjoying yours ;-)

Haven't any for sale that I'd call "affordable" yet, but I'm waiting for the prices to drop on the 991 Targa variants. Contrary to general sentiment, I've always been a fan of the Targa and they did it proper with the 991 IMO.

The thought of repairing the top mechanism out of warranty is a bit scary, so I'll shoot for a CPO car if I ever decide to indulge.

I would agree that they absolutely nailed the styling of the new Targa. Easily my favorite 991.

Totally agree... although I would be worried about repairing that top mechanism out of warranty ! Sweet looking car!
