My daughter passed up several small ones as she didn't want to shoot a "puppy" but has no qualms about shooting a decent size doe. She enjoys making sausage and eating the tenderloin and backstrap too much to not shoot one.

years ago I half heartedly did the math on what flounder and rockfish are costing me per pound.

wow.

Duck is expensive too.

but hey, we're living while so many around us are just dead men walking.

Tramping around in the boonies is seim-fun depeding,,......When you shoot a deer/elk, whatever, the work begins. Dressing & packing the SOB out is not fun.:(

Pulled it out about a mile by myself. I was so confident that I was not going to get a deer that I didn't bother to bring a game sled. Not a big deer, but holy hell am I feeling it today.

Two hour ride to the Andes tolls and gas $100
Rifles $700

"Hunter" Kills Pet Whitetail With Hammer | News OK

I guess when you are hungry and only have a hammer, every deer looks like a nail.

I'm sorry but there is something wrong with a thread where the OP mentions buying a new gun (A Henry 44 no less), installing optics and NOT posting a pic of it. :D

Seriously though, great gun. I don't recall if you posted the the distance of the shot but I just had a friend take a doe at 225 yds with a Marlin 44 shooting 300 grain bullets custom loaded. The Marlin is on my list or a Henry but I don't want the Henry with all the brass bling. Congrats on the clean kill, at least you got one! I spent the week looking for the one I've been seeing on my trail cam with 10 points and passed up several mature doe in the process :( Ah well, plenty of archery season left and with the temps we're having I've got nothing but time.

I did get a small doe opening day of youth season.... with my Ford F350. I gave it to a guy and his kid because they "thought they had shot it" and it had bed down in the ditch and decided to make one last dart simply because I was driving by. The entire right side of the deer would have been destroyed by my truck so I had no interest in it really.

When I was a kid, hunting and fishing were practically free. Same old boat, same rifle, a little gas, a bullet...
