Actually, to me, it looks like the girl bolted and the police held their fire until the perp began to drive away/towards them. Whether or not they knew she was in the line of fire is unknown, but they did not open up until he made a threatening move with the vehicle.

You could have several bystanders / folks in traffic dead by pushing the guy. Often they know who they are chasing and can get them later without a car chase. Maybe I am missing something.

The police did a good job, and nobody else got hurt- This time. If the outcome was different, I doubt the Seattle police Department would have released the video.

That Camaro took the rear end hit at 1:09 like a champ. Barely a scratch.

Yeah, I can't believe that the Explorer was taken out immediately like that. It suffered severe damage, according to photos in local paper.

Most police agencies in the U.S. are switching to them, they had better put rhino guards/crash bars on every one of them. In some other situation out in the country where that cop was the only one chasing him, he would have been home free right there.

The problem is the Explorers "hard parts" are higher than the Camaro's so when he hit the Camaro is took out his radiator.

In this case it worked in the Camaros favor but you really don't want to crash into an SUV with a regular car. :(

No regard of life from the cops. You rear end the car early in the chase then drive head on into it.... Collateral damage? How many millions of dollars if that girl caught an officers bullet on an intentional head on collusion to stop the chase!? I'll say 5 mil.

Those cops weren't messing around. Was it all pistol shots? LAPD would have had rifles and 800 shots fired. ;)

Actually quite often, they DON'T know who they're chasing. Most departments have policy in place that if the suspect can be identified at a later time, they will terminate the pursuit. However, most if not all the time, the evade is the least of the crimes they've committed. They'll more likely than not have felony warrants, be in possession of guns/drugs/etc.....They chase because if the suspect gets away, those other crimes are now gone as well. Often times, its hard to press charges if you catch a guy at a later time as well. This acehat for example had quite a lengthy record as someone posted above. Guaranteed he did not get caught and/or prosecuted every time he pulled some move. Had they caught this guy in the act, without the shoot rendering him delifed, this might have been the crime that gets this guy off the streets for life, if not for a very long while.

I used to have a recurring nightmare in which I was driving my daughter to school in the Porsche, and we proceeded through an intersection with the right of way, only to be T-boned by an a-hole who had hi-jacked a car and was being chased by a cop with no lights or siren. SHEEESH. Not sure whatever brought that on, but I haven't thought much about it until now. I think I will stay awake!

Don't forget about the all too common average idiot with a smart phone in their hand. They often drive larger vehicles such as SUVs or minivans (women headed to the mall or to pick up kids, usually in a state of hectic frazzled hurriedness) or pickups (building contractor answering texts as he drives between work sites, also in a state of hectic hurriedness). We've all seen them. In almost 40 years of driving I've seen only two incidences of people running from the cops in cars and it happened so fast I was a total sitting-duck had they hit me. OTOH, we've all seen the distracted driver weaving side to side on the freeway or suddenly seeing the red light at the last second and screeching into the intersection. I see that person almost every time I get in my car.

I was tooling around in my truck, when a guy in a Honda went flying past me. 10 Seconds later, the popo went flying by.

A few weeks ago, I saw a truck get pulled over in traffic. As it was bumper to bumper traffic, it was slow going. A few minutes later, I see a truck coming up the break down lane headed for the exit. I look at the guy and it's the same guy that the cops had pulled over, but no cop chase. I figured the cops had bigger fish to fry or he shot the cop and was trying to get a way.

So let me get this straight - this ass hole is (was) only 35 years old. He had been convicted of ten gross misdemeanors. He had been convicted of ten felonies. Some of these were firearms related. His troubles started when he was 14, so roughly one pretty serious conviction per year, with at least some of them presumably for violent offenses. How on earth does a guy pull that off? What in the hell was he doing out of prison, out walking (driving...) around with the rest of us?

Just remember one thing, though - firearms are clearly the problem. Not our criminal justice system that plays catch and release with model citizens like this one.

aigel 12-11-2015 11:54 AM

I saw a mayor interview where the guy said "gun violence" in every sentence. I don't even see the connection. Car jackings happen with knives and even just force. And a car is a deadly weapon. That guy probably would have gotten turned into a sieve at the end of that chase even without a gun involved.
