HIPPA Laws And Found Medical Records

Lets say you purchase a 911 from a dealer and the previous owner was a Doctor and he left the lists of patients names and reason for him visiting them in the hospital along with Name, Room #, Insurance company, and reason for the Doctor to see them. This list has the Hospital and the Doctors name printed on it. What would you do?

I would only read enough to find out how to get them to the doctor or hospital and get the records back to them.

Oh Yes they want it back.... I called and they were very nice to me. They are having it picked up by FedEx.

Call the patients and tell them they can each collect $1,000 for the HIPPA violation, you would only request a $250 "finders fee".

It is a "breach," and has to be reported. Depending on the number of patients involved, it can be a really big deal.

Man, I'm no doctor but my wife is in that field. I cannot imagine anyone taking a stack of patient's records off premises, stuffing them somewhere and forgetting?

I'd be angry at the car dealer's detailer, who obviously didn't clean the car out well before you spent good coin on it. They probably spent the same amount of time inspecting mechanicals/etc....

I don't see "records" of patients in the OP - just a "list" of patients and reasons for the hospital visit. Granted - that info is covered under HIPPA, but I don't see detailed patient records (stacks) being mentioned.

Shoulda kept it private with the doctor. He could be fired for that.

Meanwhile, the person who PUSHED that HIPPA law into existence is ducking prosecution for running her own e-mail server (packed full of top-level national correspondences) from a bathroom closet. But at least she turned over all those govt emails to her attorney team. And is part of the protected political class.
