Arizona Dust Storms - My Error in Judgement

We had a couple of nasty dust storms recently.
After the first one, I decided to wait until the next one (or two or three) to blow through and then clean my pool.
Big mistake.
The dust/dirt is so thick that I have now backflushed 10 times in 6 hours and it's still dirty.
The Poolvergnuegen loads up the sand filter quickly and the suction stops. What comes out of the sand filter is mud.
So, lots of brushing in the next few days.
Ugh. An education, to say the least.

I guess I could. Better to clean after each storm...not so bad then.

we got off relatively easily in N Scottsdale. Been sweeping dust off the steps after each storm but our poolvernugen seems to be keeping up. Leslies has been helpful though they keep telling me to drain my pool which I did just last year.

I can bring my pool back from the dead...don't want to drain.
.
2 or 3 bags of Shock every couple of weeks and it's pristine.
.
BTW, Costco carries boxes of Shock.

Been doing the shock every couple of weeks along with Leslie's Perfect Weekly. No algae this year at all, knock on wood, and the pool has been clear. Will really hit it before I leave for Carmel and hope it makes it through 10 days

Tried shock from others than Leslies and found it requires twice as much to make the same impact. Will see what Costco has, but last time I was there bought Clorox brand and it was very ineffective

Good to hear. My Costco brand was Clorox. Thanks.
.
In the winter I shut off my variable pump for a week at a time. Stays clean.

one of my Porsche friends is SoCal rep for Pentair. Got a variable speed pump from him along with their intellitouch wireless controller. Brilliant stuff. Can monitor the pool from anywhere, turn on the pump, turn off the pump, turn on my lights. Like all singing all dancing

I'm wondering if you could use a wet shop vac with extra long wand to suck up the dirt right off the bottom .

Better get a cover for future storms. I know the irregular shape makes it difficult.

Cheers Richard

Fill pool until it is about to overflow.

Put filter in backwash position.

Turn on garden hose to continue to fill pool while vacuuming the pool.

All the sand / silt will bypass filter and go out the backwash hose.

If you move fast it will not waste as much water as you think.

You know, there was a moment when I was backflushing, as a hose was filling, that I wondered why I could not use the manual sweeper in backflush mode.
.
You've given me permission. Thanks for this post, Jim.

I had a busted membrane in my DE filter, every time I vacuumed I was pumping it back into the pool.

I am in Florida, I tend to have to backwash my pool once a month to keep it from overflowing, so I would use the opportunity to clean it real good.

I came up with this method due to my filter being broken, trust me, it will work, just move fast get the big stuff while back washing and then you can get the rest with the filter.

I've had my Poolvergnugen for 3 years...maybe 4. Just replaced the wheel rubbers.
So worn down that the unit was bottom scraping.
Top 3 screws removed, pull off that tube assy, will allow the rears to be installed.
Got them on Amazon...best price I found.

Our sand filter has a waste setting and when we get mud like that we just connect the vac to the inlet and vacuum to waste.

Our sand has a setting that bypasses the filter to pass the waste directly out of the pool instead of passing the waste through the backwash. That way you don't have to go back through the rinse process after pushing all the dirt through the backwash.
