ISIS Not Impressed With Millenial Couple

This is so sad and ironic.

These two weren't hurting anyone. They just made a bad decision and paid the ultimate price. Not sure how the vegan/vegetarian part factored in, but there it is.

ISIS Kills Idealistic Couple

I read that article this morning . Sadly, no matter how good of a person you are, no matter how much good you do,or how well you live in harmony with the world, one cannot escape the fact that there are just some bad people living in this world.

Someone once said:

"if you have trouble differentiating reality from fantasy, can I borrow $100??

Even if you pretend really hard, it doesn't make it real.

Well, they could have ridden through the worst parts of the South Side of Chicago too... And probably would have arrived at the same result.

My Millennial step daughter mentioned this last night. She has traveled extensively including months in India and surrounding countries taking trains and buses everywhere. She just rolled her eyes. She was very aware of where she should and shouldn't go. Sad, stupid, naive.

BTW, how do people just quit their damn jobs? Are these trust fund recipients? Did Mom and Dad fund their suicidal journey? I don't get it. The aforementioned kid of mine wasn't working when she went on her journey after a serious accident sidelined her for 18 months. Part of the trip was to go to a yoga training to deal with some of her permanent injuries. She is now back at work.

I get that the travel part is cheap, Polly lived in India on a few dollars a day.

What I don't get and maybe never will is the attitude expressed in the article that work is worthless. That it is something you just walk away from. Maybe they had the type of job that is easily picked back up when they should have returned from this trip. I know in my younger days I was very much in career building mode and maybe had too many responsibilities......

It's quite easy if you plan ahead, you work hard for a few years saving money by not eating out, buying new stuff, driving a an expensive car etc, you rent and don't buy a house and don't have any children and then one day when you have enough money saved, you tell your boss you're quitting.

It's not about money but all about what priorities you want out of life.

It is obvious they lacked perspective.

I know what I do helps people, and I have been in many different aspects related to what I do.

I've also done the build and man the tradeshow booth aspect, which put me in touch with just how much people appreciate the products the company I work is involved in.

If they'd been wiser they might have seen how what they were doing with that computer screen in an office benefited people. If they had been wiser they might have not taken the route they did.

Terrible...seemed like good kids. Much respect to them for living the dream while they could.

I hope the thugs who did this are brought to justice!

They were horribly foolish, and going anywhere really hostile and deadly is foolish unless you have to or you have some reason to believe that you can handle yourself in the hostility. Hopefully, others learn from their mistake.

I worked in Algeria in '95 and '96 when they were having a Civil War. We were escorted to work by armed guards. I used to drive through Qatif on my way to work which is the Shiite region of Saudi Arabia. There were police checkpoints you had to go through.

I was in Bahrain right across the street from the Pearl round about during the Arab spring with all those people got shot.

I live in Kingston right now. Hell, I grew up in Oakland. Graduated from Oakland High.

Probably could have ended up like these two. But I didn't actively seek out the danger. I kept my head on a swivel.

There are just some places you don't go without the proper precautions. That's the way of the world.

At least he didn't write: "They died doing what they loved."
