Chris Harris and Sabine Schmitz to host the new TG!

Car culture is FAR from dead around here. The local cars and coffee outgrew only large parking lot and they overwhelm a local mall that was on the verge of closing. It is doing better now from all the people that know there is a mall there now.

Looks like a good crew. It wont be like the original but the three new people are all competent.

Ditto. People that say car culture is dying need to get out more. Our local cars and coffee has overflowed the original parking lot in just its first year. Probably half if not more of the attendees are under 25. Pretty cool variety actually.

Without the 3 original presenters, it isn't top gear. The franchise was the people. The new show may be great, hope it is, but it really should have its own brand.

Cheers

Really looking forward to seeing Harris and Sabine do with the show.

I don't speak German, but I still enjoy watching bits of Sabine's German show.

An excellent addition. Her name was mentioned in the first thread on Clarkson outgoing.

I was never a huge fan of the trio - I watched TG for the cars and one of the most frustrating things about the show was often the episode descriptions don't even mention what cars are on. Since the Amazon Prime show will likely be more of the same, I'll skip it.

That said, while I'll give the new hosts a try, I'm not optimistic. I like Harris as a writer/reviewer but to me he's never really worked as a presenter despite years of trying. I know he's got a dedicated niche of followers online, but I don't see him having the world-wide appeal of the previous hosts. He's much less of a clown, for starters.

Yeah, TG was barely a car show. More a comedy talk show with cars. Still, it's damn hard to build a big franchise around cars as a subject (I should know, having just sold off a couple car channels on Youtube.) TGUK was a magical combination for a while (in the sense of being a revenue monster) and none of their other spinoffs have clicked.

I make it a habit of giving every automotive show a few viewings. Will definitely give Chris and Sabine a chance.

The only top gear shows I have seen, has been within the last 2 months. Never watched the show until then. What I did see was Leblanc highlighting past episodes. Pretty boring all around.

I would say that with Chris and Sabine, you have two hosts with some high level connections to get access to really interesting machinery, and the also the mad skills to put on a demo for the ages when the product warrants it. Also could be head to head fun, even w/o a Stig type in there.
Bottom line? I'm all for them

silverc4s 02-04-2016 08:34 AM

Chris is a bit wardrobe challenged, I'll give you that.

Same here.

I'm an all around gear head. I like anything that has a motor and moves.

Wow car culture dead. Sugar come down to captree or the OBI any Sunday morn this spring and summer. Come early it's usually full by 7 am. You'll see hundreds of cars.. Sports cars, classics, hot rods all types of people's toys. I mean even gremlins and Pacers and yugos. Just amazing what shows up. Stay for about 2 hrs you'll see another 2-3 hundred cars show. I also hear there's a great show at bear mountain that brings cars from all over. Yeah sorry car culture is alive and well on Long Island. Unfortunately not seeing as many air cooled Porsches as we used to but I guess with the prices going up there becoming garage queens.
