That sounds like it might be fun. Sabine is so much fun to watch drive.

I like them, and I think the show will be decent, but I don't see them having the rapport that the old hosts did...

I will watch it. I can't wait for the old trio to be back on the air on Amazon. Top gear unleashed and no more PC. Gosh I hope I am not offended by them.

I'm pretty sure this is Sabine passing people ON THE OUTSIDE IN A DHL VAN AT THE 'RING!
I love this woman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnGjIpNFjCM Last edited by herr_oberst; 12-23-2015 at 07:21 AM.. |

The three old TG hosts had/have a certain rapport and chemistry between them, even if it was bit contrived at times. That's going to be hard for any of the new hosts to follow.
Chris and Sabine would both be great hosts but how different would they be from, say, an episode of 5th Gear? I'll watch, though...

It will be a completely different show and it will be excellent. And solid timing for Clarkson, May and the Hamster to go out on top, there was a definite decline in the last few seasons. All the magic had been used up.
Really looking forward to seeing Harris and Sabine do with the show.

Lost interest in Top Gear even before the JC fiasco. Though with these new duo, might lock on a few episodes.

Not a fan of Chris but a big fan of Sabine. She is fun to watch and has a good sense of humor but I don't know if she will make up for Chris.

Yeah, the show had become more about humor and sight gags and less about cars. I hope the new show isn't more of the same, or worse, a lot more of the same.

I can not fathom that Top Gear was a top rated BBC show.
Car culture is America is all but dead (including most of the remaining participants) You'll be lucky to find one guy with a lift in his garage in your entire town. Is car culture still a thing in the UK?

Quote:
5 impressive stats about Top Gear - Mar. 11, 2015 "1. Earnings winner: The program is one the BBC's most powerful global brands. British media estimate that Top Gear makes £150 million ($225.8 million) in revenue for the broadcaster's commercial arm BBC Worldwide. 2. Record breaker: The motoring show is the most widely watched factual television program in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. 3. Global footprint: Top Gear plays in 214 territories worldwide and has an estimated global audience of 350 million. It set viewer records for an unscripted series on BBC America in 2013, while also delivering its highest ever ratings for global channel BBC Knowledge." And I don't know why you think Car Culture in America is dead. It isn't around Portland at all, and this isn't even a "car" town. |

Wow. Car culture dead?
Not at all what I have found since being back on the mainland. Exactly the opposite, the depth of classic, vintage, American muscle, sports car, and a Hot Rod activity is amazing to see. Whether in Az, Ca, Washington, Oregon, where ever I have gone they are all over the place. I stumbled into so many car shows this past summer I almost got a blister on my camera trigger finger. I do wonder at the divide between the sports car crowd and most other types of car enthusiasm. OK I'm getting older, but not dead yet. Cheers Richard |

No matter who hosts the show next, everyone will be comparing it to the old team. They had a cult like following.
Unless the show can create a whole new attitude and look to generate new viewers, the comment will be "it isn't the same without Clarkson, Hammond, and May. To that, if they create something new and different they have to hope that it will be accepted. It won't be like a James Bond movie where you can replace Sean Connery with Roger Moore or Daniel Craig and keep the character and attitude the same. The new hosts have to start from scratch. I predict one or two seasons at the most. Quote:

Best case scenario? We now have 2 good car shows to watch. I don't see a downside.
In fact I wish 5th gear would be boradcast here again, too, it wasn't bad. I really like Chris Harris, glad to see him get a shot ! |

It could be interesting if they try to do something totally different. If they follow the same format it will forever be unfavorably compared to the old show. I'll give it a watch, it will still be better than any US car show.
