Hey Vash, how did those tires work out for you in the snow?

I am leaving in a few days, chains ready for those dumb CHPs who wouldn't let me through without it.

Amazingly well.

i think i took a gentle hit in MPG with the more aggressive tread, but whatever. i need more data, since i was in 4WD up and over the pass.

i had chains in the back of the truck, but never touched them. (ever, they are unused for 6 years). no slipping. took a few gentle brake touches and it stopped fine. i went over Echo pass in a damn near whiteout for a while. i couldnt see 50 feet. slow and steady.

the road to the cabin was unplowed and i chugged thru giddy like a schoolgirl.

Michelin AT2..i like them. in big rain, no problem as well. speed limit most of the time.

minor rant:

big snow storm. everyone turns on AM radio and listens to the road reports.

lady with robot voice says, "chain control in affect. vehicles with All wheel drive and snow tires permitted to pass"..repeat, repeat.

i stop in that last gas station to let my wife use the restroom since it's much easier for me to make yellow snow than her. there was a poor CHP guy there trying to go home. he stopped for coffee. i sat there and watched person after person ask if their car qualified. Quattro, Subaru, one 4x4 tacoma, etc..eff! what was so hard to understand? cop said, "if your tire says M+S....."..that almost derailed a guy with "all terrains" on his tacoma. i told him.. "youre fine, follow me." he later passed me on the down hill too fast and experience some "drifting" hahaha..

drive careful LOOK..some folks just dont understand.

Thanks for the info. Good to know about those tires.

Down here, because we have lack of rain, and most are on bald tires. I can say 80% of people down here don't know what a summer or M+S tires is.

Folks from none snow country know nothing about driving in the white stuff which I totally understand where they are coming from. I learn from visiting my relatives in Canada as a kid and noticed their behavior during a snow storm. We ended up in a ditch with my cousin driving up to Edmonton one winter. I witness a guy in a Bronco crash into a pile of cars up at Mammoth. He was fine going up the hill, but hauling ass down was a dumb move. You should see some of the stuns people pull in our local mountains when we get the first snow. They go up in bald tires and many without chains. Everyone is driving like it its dry with plenty of sunshine.
