BMW S1000R - in the garage...

Just...wow. Had been considering a Thruxton as a sport-bike balance to my RK. The reviews and feedback from many of you caused me to rethink that plan. Test road a few bikes over the holidays but this bike so outperformed everything else in terms of handling, features, acceleration, braking, suspension and even comfort (note: this the "R" version of the "RR" track bike) that there was no decision to make.

First ride had me blown away....then I realized it was in "rain mode". Switched to "road" and all I can say is that I've never experienced torque, throttle response and balance in my short 56 years like this. An absolute rush!

Quick shifter is instantaneous without touching the clutch or backing off throttle. There are still two higher performance settings that I will likely not explore. The traction control and race ABS all but prevent wheelies and those back off on higher settings. No 3rd gear wheelies for me.

Bike also has cruise control, ESA and ergos that are more friendly for regular people. Farkle plans are under way to include bar-end mirrors, Pazzo shorty levers, paddock stand and spools, and some CF bits. Akropovic slip-on already installed.

Wasn't sure about white at first but the more I see it, the more I like it. This is a 2015 and was a demo bike that I bought in the wee hours of Year-end, so the deal was good.

My HD may be collecting dust. May even sell it come spring. Any Pelican interest in a good deal, let me know. Going to be a happy new year for me!

Very nice. Those look like wicked bikes! I'd love to try one, I'd probably kill myself, but damn it would be fun!

Congrats, I'm a big fan of that platform. I have an HP4 and a regular S1000RR that is my dedicated track bike. Twisting the throttle is like being strapped to a missile, it still makes me giggle like a little girl.....I'm with you on the modes, The HP4 is for the street, I haven't even plugged in the red plug, I typically use it in road mode, but will occasionally put it in race mode. The track bike I use in full slick mode and is just ridiculous.........

Does your S1R have the DDC?

Yes...I called it ESA above. Old habits...

Like being strapped to a missle...sounds about right. Your bike is 190 hp, mine is "only" 160 with torque shifted to lower rpm's for street. Yes, red plug will stay on the shelf!

I will be upgrading from my K1200R soon and am leaning toward a K1300S. I'd be interested in the S1000RR if it had some real luggage options. I don't want the gortex saddle bags that hang over the rear pillion.

LOL on the no Thruxton thing.

The S1000RR is my absolute dream bike.

Maybe when I'm done paying $65K/year college tuition . . .

Sweet bike! I have an HP4 and they are simply amazing machines. Blurred vision after 8000 rpm.

Funny!

I don't know why, but many of my racing friends are or have moved to liter bikes this season. The R1 seems to be the weapon of choice now.

My little 675 is still plenty scary for me.

Congratulations - very nice bike. Far, far different than the Road King, that's for sure.

I kinda went through the same thing several years ago when I bought my 900 Super Sport - I quit riding my Road King. At least for awhile... I'm glad I hung onto it in the end, though. It's nice having such vastly different machines.

So, if you are at all considering doing so, I'd say hang onto the Road King for awhile. Until the "newness" of the BMW wears off a bit.

B-sip...just a hair under 6'.

Jeff...I suspect you're right. Had worked out the deal to include my RK as a trade. Rode it one last time and decided to pay for the new bike and hang on to it after all. It's all dialed in, comfortable as a pair of old jeans and paid for long ago. It's also a carb'd model which I love, and could likely never replace. So she may spend time in limbo while the new hottie gets all the attention. We'll see.

Thanks Mike. I had a GS and liked it, but at 6-4, its tough finding bikes I fit comfortably on. One of the reasons I still have the Electra Glide, which like yours, was paid for a long time ago....

I am really digging the XR version of this bike. I did however just purchase a Yamaha FZ-09 so the BMW will have to wait.

Congratulations, Mike.

I've owned Boxers for many years, and find the new R and XR really intriguing.

So far I've resisted the temptation....
