Google is really interesting

Google is really interesting in the way it shows peoples search stats.

I was curious how the tennis was going here in NZ so I typed in Ana and it immediately came up with Ana Ivanovic.

Not that I'm into looking at pics of gorgeous :blush blush: 18 to 25 year old tennis players but it's interesting to know that half of the rest of the world is too.

It is an algorithm that works extremely well and gives you a good idea what people search. I think there was a German politician ex-wife suing Google because there were rumors about her being an escort earlier in life. Her name came up with "prostitute" auto-completed in Google. I think she got Google to change it.

I find googling a misspelled word

In other news:

There has been a sudden surge in image searches for Ana Ivanovic by people who have also visited forums.pelicanparts.com...

LOL, they never divorced and are together again after a short time of separation.
Christian and Bettina Wulff

He is an idiot!

On 17 February 2012, Wulff resigned as President of Germany, facing the prospect of prosecution for allegations of corruption relating to his prior service as Prime Minister of Lower Saxony.

Quote:
In 2012, she undertook legal action against Google, TV host Günther Jauch, and 34 other German and foreign bloggers and media, which led to cease and desist orders. The centrepiece of the associated lawsuit is Google's autocomplete feature, because the search engine would suggest terms such as "escort" and "prostitute" when searching for Wulff's name. According to a survey by a polling group for the tabloid Bild am Sonntag, 81% of Germans had never heard the rumours before she started her campaign.

I use google for programming help a lot. It's especially helpful when I'm not at all sure what I'm looking for. So I'll type in something like "DOM.getAttributeByName()." and it will autocomplete with "childNode[0].value.childNode;" or whatever -- enough to give me a snippet of someone else's code and a description to verify that it does what it should. Scary.

Or do comparison searches. Say you're looking at a Stanley growler, or a Touareg. Type in "Touareg vs..." and it'll tell you what most people consider the most likely competition.

Google is friggin' scary.

And, did you know you can search by images rather than words? Crazy.
