Got plenty of ammo, currently sitting in a 72 degree house heated only by our flat top woodstove (also good for cooking), two full freezers in a cold garage, and a pantry full of food, 20 individual gallons of drinking water along with 800 gallons in the hot tub, and 50 gallons in the water heater. 6 cords of split and seasoned firewood, a BBQ grill with 5 30 gallon full tanks, Plenty of flashlights, batteries, candles, and hurricane lamps with oil.......not too worried.

Solar isn't going to get much cheaper. PV panels are no longer the major cost.

The gas question came up when I bought the first generator so when I sold my race car I kept the 5 gallon gas cans and rotate the gas through our cars every couple months. I use Stabil to help off set the weird CA gas we have and combined with the three cars gives me a total of 50 to 70 gallons total depending on how full the cars are. I also bought a small hand pump so I don't have to put gas in the generators when they are running and possibly blowing myself up!!!!

I have 250 gallons of diesel on hand, usually 30-50 gallons or so of gasoline( In vehicles ) , a generator, our well has a hand pump , so we can get water any time, also , there are 2 small streams on our property . Guns, and ammo, and tons of wildlife in our yard every day. I could bag a deer, or turkey from my bedroom window any day of the week. We have a safe place to hide from the zombies also . I think we could hold out for a while here if we had to

I have a 20K pool, a Honda 2000 watt generator, a 5,500 watt generator in the RV with hookups to the house, (80 gallons of gas in it) 3 months of emergency dehydrated food, several 1000s rounds of ammo and a list of all the Mormons in the neighborhood. Beer I need to stock up on.

Whole house, auto start, natural gas genset. Plus a few mid-size portables. Always have at least 30 gals of gas on hand.

If we lose electric, and natural gas, we got bigger problems to worry about!

I had a prepper coworker who lived in Berkeley. He went over all his stuff in a lunchtime conversation - it was pretty extensive. I asked him if he had any guns and ammo. He seemed puzzled and said "no" and asked "why?". I explained to him that all you really needed was a gun & ammo and know where the unarmed preppers live. I am not sure if he went gun shopping or not, but he sure looked like he was considering the thought!

All I can say is that we will not starve or go thirsty, but I will not be able to keep electricity and will lose my frozen food after a while (depends what time of year). That risk is very low and while it'd be a shame, I'd just organize a couple good size BBQ and invite the neighbors - if they bring beer!

On the subject of SOLAR! I considered it for emergency more than anything else but then learned that the run of the mill solar people put on their roofs is worthless in a power outage. That's terrible ... I guess you could build a standalone system, but it would not feed into the grid during 'regular times'?
