I tried 4 times to get a link up on this post and couldn't do it. Tried to delete post and couldn't do it. Sorry about that

Anyway I wanted to show the beginings of how the R Gruppe and I started down our road of mutual antagonism.

If U are brave enough to pursue the thread I was going to link go to Early Registry Board General Info Last page..... 73RS Replica Question starting with pg 3......My second "Purity Of Essence" speech. If U like Kubrick you might like my references. What surprised me and will be apparent is that NO ONE got it. I really did think I could get the link up or I wouldn't have bothered.

Tabs

I'm going to be 100% honest in this post, but am going to try not to piss you off.

I went and read all of the S-Registry stuff (kinda weird slice of the past - Paul just learning to use the computer ).

It proved one thing alone to me - Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose - forgive my bad French (and for those who don't geddit and can't be bothered to go through a web translator, it is "the more that changes, the more there is the same thing" or something like that).

The purity vs R-Gruppe debate is going to be eternal until there are so few early cars left it stops (probably just slows down...). As far as I am aware the same debate exists across pretty much all classic car types, to a lesser or greater degree depending on the number of cars remaining. The fact that so many performance bits exist (factory and non-factory) for 911s, makes a 911 easy to modify. So they are.

Tabs - you can't force your personal crusade of purity on anyone (granted you can, of course, try). Further (and I'm really, really trying not to piss you off with this), posting clever Kubrick-inspired posts does not strengthen your case. As a Philistine in regard to such subtleties, I just skim through the post searching desperately for a meaning.

If people didn't get it, either its too obscure or they are not "smart" enough. Moreover, this gains you nothing - if someone is incapable of recognising the subtleties of something you have written (ie, not smart enough), they are equally incapable of realising you have scored a point against them.

Tabs - when I read the Early-S link, I really feel like you started the antagonism with the R-Gruppe, and that is, in my mother's words - nothing to be proud of...

And finally, I think I've now read the post by Paul you frequently refer to where he "threatened" to bring a gun to Cambria (my read of the post is that it is because he is a whiskey-drinking cigar-loving California-hating gun-toting proud-to-be Oregonian). I've also now read the post less than 10 minutes later where he reinforced that he was kidding.

So he was wasn't serious. This is the internet - the written word can be the poorest communication device for certain emotions, and sarcastic humour is getting close to the top of that list.

If the source of my inspiration Brig. Jack D. Ripper is not real......then can the speech be real or just tongue in cheek. If the ground you stand on is not real then the house of logic is faulty as well ( I also saw it as being a self parody) At that time the whole point of the exercise was to see if they would catch the reference to Strangelove......I thought no body would be able to miss it. Come on Jack the Ripper..Jack D Ripper right there it should tell U something.

With regards to PWD. he for a long time was really bent that I made the Stockton ccomment because he thought I was threatening him. Now I say he was threatening. He still gets bent on that one. Earlier this year I took a lot of time telling him what had happened in a post......his basic comment was "Yeah whatever." If you read those old posts you can see I really tried to make amends with him. As late as the day before yesterday I was giving him something. Go look underJack Olsens BB post in the Gen Info section. I told PWD that it would be a lousy deal to take him away from the PBoard and that it would be like a taking a fish outa the water. so I have some empathy for him..

Getting pissed off at U why? U have talked to me in a reasonable tone, you've gone out of your way. I hope U really don't think I am what I make myself out to be on these boards. I really do stand accountable and am ready to explain myself whenever asked. And have done so all along.

"Tis very strange men should be so fond of being wickeder than they are." Daniel Defoe

Also with regards to the modification of the cars thats a dead horse also. I don't like it but so be it... In Ventura I met the R Gruppe Meister and we had a long chat......I don't have a problem with him and I hope he doesn't with me. So I brought up those old posts as a point of history of how it all got started. For whats its worth.

PS Also read through Schmidts comments especially the last part of his second long one, where he talks about a 79 Pontiac Trans Am.... Also one other thing about how things havn't changed....thats exactly been my point as of late...how many times are we going to chew the same cud......and that these boards are nothing more than entertainment.

Yeah - problem is I am 27 and wasn't even a gleam in my father's eye when Dr Strangelove came out.

I admit I'm culpable for not having seen it, but the list of movies I haven't seen but want to is so long I barely think about it.

Other than that, I was crap at English at school - my ability to recognise allusions was sadly lacking.

since we (my wife and I) own a copy of Strangelove, I get the references (along with the B. Guano gaff...shame on you Tabs...that's what I meant about being sloppy). Here's my take on things: my guess is that you don't really believe what you type. Yes, you can convince yourself of the viewpoint, and might even have some strong feelings, but the main reason you're enamored with adopting the POE stance is that it will get a rise out of people.

Of course there is no way to logically argue the topic to any real conclusion, since the facts are limited and opinions rule the day. I read through the entire thread, and I understand a bit more of the history, and see that personalities haven't changed much over the last couple of years.

I know you live to poke and prod the soft underbellies of the online community, and to a certain extent there is nothing wrong with that as long as a large degree of humor and humility is used. I know you've attempted to infuse both, but I think the problem is you often go right up to the line, then cross over it, then kick some dirt on it, then dance upon its grave. The other big problem is the tendency of the written word to be misconstrued due to the lack of context that accompanies it. That and some people don't get certain bits of humor and/or sarcasm. Of course when it is obfuscated by the desire to piss off the natives, it is more easily missed.

How do I know this? BTDT, both online and in person. For me getting older, having a kid, and a stiff dose of therapy helps to gain a little perspective. I still love to enter into the flames, but these days I spend a lot of time typing out responses, then deleting them *without* sending them.

Great job Todd...

I've become fond of some of the more provacative authors here on this board. I have also become a bit bored by "some" that have their own agenda, by infusing their cars' image too frequently. I, for one think that you Todd, are an asset to those of us that assemble here frequently. In my myoptic opinion, you are "spot on' about Teddy.

I would like to think WE all have something to add to the mix of great guys/gal that take their valuable time to hammer the keys for the sole purpose of opining. We really have the best of everything here. WE are from all walks of life, and we really must have the same passion.

Teddy..you know this BB is not about you NOR is this thread. You are duly entitled until you've been sensored. As Todd has said, "why skirt that 1st ammendment right, and let someone evoke their domain rights"? I'm not implying that you need to follow the herd, but maybe be a bit more adaptive w/o crossing over that double-yellow line..?

Again Todd, thank you for NOT pressing the delete key and letting this thread continue with a bit of your "soul".

Good job buddy...you can be my Wing-man anytime !!!

Dear Nostatic

Finially i am understood....clarity of vision. If I had run into U things might have been different because U can spot the references. Thats what I was looking for to begin with, and was very disapointed when no one caught it. I have been running on reputation for a long time now, no longer do I even have to say something to get a reaction, as U have so nimbly have been able to ascertain. I have been playing just to the reputation. (Also be aware of my self parody..... and this was a reminder of the old days for me as well when I was a "King Mixer") So it was fun and I was able to laugh a little.

Sloppiness......I was working from memory and it had been a while since I had seen Strangelove, it worked out well though it segued into the 2nd post. Actually in the begining I was being very creative, creating dialogue and even writing short stories. Also I am not writing a research paper here either, most of this stuff is just off the top of my head.

Now I have learned some things here as well.......I learned that I have 360*mental vision around me it's, almost as if I am on a playing field. When I post something there are basically 2 choichs the reader can make, in other words I am able to take both sides of the equation into perspective at the same time. I take the the negative reaction and think what can that be. I then think what is my response to that. It hasn't failed me yet. Also there has been positive feedback as well or I would have stopped long ago. I am also able to gage razor thin shades of reactions both within my self and others.....I can't adequately describe it though. The dark side is and what I have watched within myself is manipulation of response. That I won't do.

I told the boyz long ago that a friend of mine had started the Graduate School of Psychology at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, he passed away a few years back btw. Fuller if U know the politics in the proffession controled the licensing Board for Psychology in California for years. Also one of my dearest friends over sees PHd canidates in Psychology for a University in So CAL (I think he is the Assistant Dean if I remember what he told me correctly?) Numerous students of his are now running programs in various Universitys throughout the country. His wife also has her Phd in Psych. My association with these people goes back 30 years. What a strange trip it's been down a long and winding road..... The boyz thought I was kidding...I wasn't. (As an aside my friend had the cleanest early 66 911 I had ever seen wt the wood dash and wood steering wheel).

I will tell U something about myself......when someone throws a rock in my pond and upsets me.....I am able to pull back within myself and thread the I of the needle and untie the Gordian knot within. I have been able to that for over 15 years, under the heaviest duress imaginable.

And this is the direction my writing on these boards was taking before I was preempted.

"What does it profit a man to gain the world only to lose his soul."

When U feel the flames of the abyss licking at your feet u realize what your losing.

"It's out of that abyss of nothingness that insight into the dark side comes. It's by owning the darkness within, that the light comes and with the light comes power."

Now the boyz have flanked me, so I have retreated to the high ground.......

PS...BTW If you notice I havn't been playing around very much on this OT Board, most of my posts on this Board have been pretty straight.
