Fried Butter

OK, I saw a pic on the random picture thread of fried butter. How many of you have tried fried butter? What does it taste like?

It seems not to be such a good choice. I know its a state/county fair food but deep frying butter? The only fair like events (Italian feasts for saints) I have gone to are here in NYC. Sausage and peppers and zeppoles are standard fare.

Sounds like a great way to ruin your trip to the fair....I can imagine the stomache cramps an hour after eating that.

It tastes like butter.

I have not tried it. Anything deep fried tastes great but I can't see eating some of the stupid things that are deep fried at the state fair. Deep fried bacon or Oreos and Snicker bars just would not do it for me. I would go for deep fried turkey leg or pork but I can't wrap my brain around a deep fried candy bar. I have not had a candy bar in over 30 years. It is just not something I want.

Deep fried candybars are actually really good. First came across them in the UK, and have occasionally had them since. Sickly sweet so not something I can do too often...

The best is a deep fried Hostess Ding Dong. Tastes like chocolate souffle.

When you see "deep fried butter/beer/coke", that usually just means batter with ingredient X in it. Of course other more solid things like candy bars, Twinkies, etc... (Even ice cream) they ate coated in batter and deep fried.

I had deep fried pickle chips last night for the first time. I guess they are a Midwest staple, like cheese curds and square sliced pizza. I thought they were pretty good. I would order them again.

fair food is evil.

i ALWAYS start and end with that turkey leg. it is always better in my mind that what i actually get handed.

last time at the fair, my wife started speaking mandarin with the lady selling the behemoth legs. they bonded over the language and that lady sought out the biggest leg i have ever seen. three bites!! i was done. completely done. i felt awful after that. no beer, not funnel cakes..done.

i would have paid $50 for a salad.

I would try it but for the life of me can't imagine how butter doesn't liquefy the minute it hits the grease.

I have tried the twinkie, candy bar, etc., tried deep fried pickles but didn't like them (too salty).

Tried the chocolate dipped bacon... was okay but wouldn't do it again.

The best thing I have had at the fair is a huge ol hot dog with everything on it... yes it gave me indigestion but it was worth it!

I have no urge to eat any of this fair food "goodness". Over the years I have avoided crap fat to the point that my system can't take it anymore without getting irritated. The worst is animal fat, such as a fatty burger, pizza with sausage etc. - so I guess I could still try the fried butter ...

The fact that this type of food is considered fun is testimony how far we have come as a nation of fat arses.

I think that they also freeze the liquids into small cubes, batter that and fry it. It melts inside and flavors the batter as it fries.

Deep fried air? Deep fried frying oil?

We put on a little outdoor carnival every year. We've tried BBQ, Tamales, Gyros, and everything you can imagine.

What sells the most by far is the plain old corndog. Then after that, cotton candy, shave ice, kettle corn, and then all of the other fried food. We usually run out of funnel cake, but they are not the biggest seller. There is no way to not run out of super nachos (meat), but they are not a big seller. We had some tater tots this year, covered in nacho cheese and chopped steak that were amazing.

We tried deep fried cool aid. Not good. Deep fried Snickers are good, but Twinkies are better. Butter sounds boring by comparison. One of my favories is the Mexican corn that you can get with Mexican mayonnaise, lemon, and some sort of Pico De Gallo looking spice on it (think "Nacho Libre" the corn in the eye scene).
