Jeep Navigation/DVD/Radio repalcement

Hi Pelicans,

Any auto electronics guru's out there? I have a 2006 Jeep Commander with factory Navigation, CD, Satellite, AM/FM and steering wheel controls. These units have an inherent fault in electronics of the unit, that causes the screen to go blank and the controls to be in operative. I can not bring myself to have this unit repaired again for $400.00 and only have a 90 day warranty. I also do not wish to spend $1,000.00 plus for a new unit OEM or otherwise to replace it.

This is a double din unit used on several Chrysler products including Jeep and Dodge. Apparently this was a one year one system and changed for the 2007 model year. Also for what ever reason aftermarket units that would be compatible with other Chrysler vehicles that had this unit indicate they will not work with my vehicle.

Is anyone aware of an after market unit that is plug and play that will fit in the stock opening and allow the factory installed options to work for under $400.00

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

A quick search on Crutchfield yielded several options that fit most of your criteria. I recommend heading over there and doing some looking. They have a search feature that allows to see what fits your car, and you can add on install kits that will help maximize the integration with your steering wheel controls and other factory options.

This one looks pretty good and the install it is only $66.

Ditto on Crutchfield, great company with great service. They should be able to help you find not only the right head unit to fit, but the right adapters to make it plug and play.

No - you should check with a good Jeep forum. I have a '07 GC / SRT8 and I'll tell you the network / electronics are not very good. Lot's of hiccups and latency in all systems. Knowing what I know of these is your focus would be better spent on a OE replacement at a reasonable cost instead of re-inventing the wheel.

There is Moparpartsonline where you can can enter your VIN and get the correct part @30% off of retail. Or Ebay...............

Thanks for the input guys.

I went to the Jeep Commander forum before posting here. It's a pretty good forum. Not as good as here but pretty good over all. The Nav/radio failing is very common with many posts on the issue. There isn't much in the way of a replacement system for 2006 units without losing some stock functions. I am not sure what is so special about this year but not much out there. One guy posted a youtube video of the Jensen vx7022 unit as a direct replacement.

Following that I contacted Crutchfield for advice on the unit. They are pushing the Kenwood DNX892. They advised the Jensen, Boss and Parrot that are supposed to be compatible would all lose functions. I just can not bring myself to spend $1,200.00. I just want to buy something that will fill the hole, look like it belongs there and all the functions work.

Gambler if push comes to shove I will go OEM.

Keep an eye on EBay for used units

Just be thankful it isn't a 2003 996 with the Bose, what a PITA that is going to be to replace.

PS the solution to any of those integral systems is simply to run new wire everywhere.

Anything is easy when you do THAT.
