insurance claim

Hit a deer last night on the way home.

Car is a '13 Nissan Versa econobox. Still driveable. One quick estimate is saying $1600 or so to fix it all.

Meeting w/ insurance adjuster on 2/3 (!!!). Aside from fixing the car, what should I be looking for? I know with our P-cars future resale value is affected, is this an issue with a common car like my Nissan?

Help Brain Trust!

No.

In 2 years that thing won't be worth much regardless of accident history.

Just take pics, keep the receipts to show it was fixed correctly.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't think there would be any significant diminished value, but I wanted to double check.

As long as they do the work correctly, as in buyer would not have known without being told by you or a carfax then should not be an issue.

I've sold a couple few cars with minor damage and never been an issue.

The check from the insurance company should be enough to cover making you whole. If, however, you decide that you can live with the bumper pad that has a scuff on it, (for example) rather than have the body shop put on a brand new one, well, that's up to you; either way, the money is yours.

This, collected a $3k check from hail damage on my 01' Tahoe with 125k on the clock.

The damage is on the hood and roof.

If it really bothered me I'd get a color matched hood from a boneyard for $300 and call it a day.

No one is seeing the roof unless they are 8 ft tall.

I hope you made some steaks with that guy with all the trouble it's costing ya!
That's a long time to meet with an adjuster. Get a rental car, that usually speeds things up.

I would classify that as cosmetic.

Mrs Rocket hit a huge deer a few months ago. Did about $5,500 in damage to her '13 VW Tiguan. Shop did a great job fixing it.

What's your deductible? If it's $1k, it may not be wise to file a claim and risk cancellation.

I hate insurance companies!

Hitting an animal falls under the comprehensive coverage, not collision. And most people's comp deductible is lower than their collision deductible. I don't think the insurance company will penalize you for a deer hit.

Nope. $500 deductible, and 2 quick estimates I got were $1800. Neither place on Progressive's "we like this place" list, so I wouldn't get a "lifetime warranty" on the repairs...

Only thing that really gets me about this is that the adjuster(s) can't meet me for 2 more weeks...

Something is seriously wrong if Progressive's reps say they can't meet with you for two weeks. Their internal policies and procedures require immediate in-person response. They have huge fleets of Immediate Response Vehicles (IRVs, I kid you not) to to make sure they respond to claims immediately. Call their 1-800 number and complain.

You don't have to bring your car to a Progressive-approved shop, but obviously they can offer incentives to get you to one. All you need to do is take your car to a shop you trust and give them your insurance information. You tell them to deal with Progressive and to give you a loaner and tell you when the car is fixed in the meantime. You don't need to hassle with the claim and adjuster personally. The shop is well set up to take care of that.

I switched to progressive when state farm dropped me (wife got a few too many tickets in too short a time) - I was impressed that a progressive rep was at my house the day after one of their customers hit my fence. I'll be looking to switch again after this whole mess is done with...

Progressive sucks goat ass. I'd never, ever buy a policy from them after the way they tried to dick me after my Mercedes got bashed into while parked - flagrant hit-and-run. They actually had the nerve to try and deny the claim (despite my photos showing broken taillight lens bits all over the ground from the vehicle that hit it - 99.9% sure it was a pickup I found in the same parking garage with a newly busted rear taillight lens at the proper height and fresh black paint on it matching my car a week later but I digress...) This happened on March 17 overnight a few years ago in a parking garage so it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out what happened - some stupid dingus staggered back from the bar drunk as hell after celebrating "Saint Pattys Day" while I was working that night, threw his pickup into reverse and - whoops what's that crunching noise? Oh sheet - nobody around?!?! Get gone!

Fkkerz actually told me I was lying on my claim and that I'd hit a telephone pole (traveling sideways at about 5' off the ground presumably). Then they flat-out lied to me and said my state "doesn't do" diminished value - total crock (I called the state insurance commissioners office about it). They finally decided to do a 180 and honor my claim after that - naturally no apology. I immediately dropped the policy. Eff them.

Got close to one again this morning, about 100 feet away from the first.

Buddy has a stamped 1919A4... maybe I can rig a vehicle mount?
