There were two brothers who came down from the Bay area with their stock but turbo S2000 at Willow some years ago. They were running a full second faster then some of our local hot dogs, track prepped SC or 3.2 cars.

I looked up some local S2000's for sale.
$13k is a good deal, but it's not a deal of a lifetime.
There are original cars (or tastefully upgraded) to be found with under 60k in that 15k price range

Early ones were twitchy, especially in the rain.Very many have been wrecked in the UK as a result. The build quality was great though, made in the same factory as the NSX was.

I briefly considered trading in my aging 1986 911 cab on a 2001 or 2 when they were new cars. When I realized the service manager at the Honda dealership personally wanted my trade in 911 ,I reconsidered.
Today I am retired and downsized my fleet. I just bought a 60k 2001 Boxster S for $9300 and think it represents better value than a 2000S

Value aside, but the S2000 is a fun car. Are we talking street driving, track, and or comparing to other similar cars? I read many of the comparison tests in the typical magazines around 2000 and 2001. They all raved about the S2000 and some of the tests, the S2000 came out ahead of the Boxster (don't remember if its the S or not?). I push my S2000 pretty hard on the streets when no one is around, but not to the point of sliding off the whipping the rear end with opposite lock. Well, only in this one turn on the way up to my house when no one's around. I don't care if its faster then a Boxster or Elise or whatever in a track or canyon road. Half the time, I am sitting out of 2nd back into first just to get moving again. AC works great. IMO, the S2000 handles better then the SC or 3.2 cars of the era. Depending on the road or course, it will run circles around my 930 and my 930 is pretty tricked with motor and susp work.
