Can you ID this long gun
Curious about this long gun.
Seems to be a legit photo from the period of dress, hats and clothing any ideas of make or model? Real or a Buster Keaton Movie prop? ![]()

Yep, a PUNT gun. Used to shoot large flocks of birds (ducks) usually while floating.

Punt gun was the term we used. Illegal since before the turn off the 1900th century, but my father saw them used in MI in the 1950s.

I saw a demo on one once. It broke every clay on a 4x8 sheet of plywood at about 30 yards. They were called market guns as well because they would use them to take as many down with one shot to take to market.

Now in 993 land ...
|
They decimated the ducks with these guns. Specifically ducks that like to raft in big groups. In the SF and Chesapeake bay, the Canvasback duck is such a species. Thousands of them used to raft in big groups. The migratory bird act of 1918 put a stop to market hunting ...

Ok, so what did they use for a ramrod? And how many pounds of shot/powder did it take?

No, you're all wrong. These guns have nothing to do with duck hunting. They were specially made for collecting specimens by palaeontologists.
