Bought a snow shovel today

For the impending armageddon, I bought a new snow shovel. Not the best in the world, but not the worst-
Key features- no plastic crap.
Aluminium blade- lightweight
Metal struts can be welded as needed
Handle can be replaced.
Came from mom and pop hardware store, not box store.

(Also- all the other shovels were plastic- so this was the *best* on the shelf)

This should last. And it wasn't made in China either!

Forgive me, but that isn't a shovel, but rather a push-blade. If you want a good show shovel, go to Ace Hardware or one of the Farm and Home supply places and get a grain shovel.

It will last for years.

Ha! That's what I was looking for but they didn't have one! My dad had an aluminium one, but the leading edge got messed up shoveling gravel, but it was my FAVORITE shovel!

A fine piece of equipment you have there. It's good that men can have real conversations about important stuff.

Good luck finding an aluminum scoop shovel. All the ones I've seen lately are aluminum colored plastic.

Better yet, an old school steel coal shovel from back in the day.

Those make excellent dust pans around the shop the rest of the year!

With a rig like that, you could run around the neighborhood clearing out people's driveways for 20 bucks each and make a pile of money in 4 hours.

A good choice, that Garant...a beauty with a reinforced leading edge.
.
As a kid, I shoveled our own sidewalks, but then I'd shovel all of the neighbors' as well...for a dime...not often for a quarter.
That's how I got my money for firecrackers at the 4th of July.
An elderly neighbor lady always wanted me to come in for a cookie and hot chocolate before she paid me my dime.
I suffered through that because her house was odiferous of old lady.

Be careful of straining your back.

PSA for you all in case you forgot. Cold air plus exertion plus morning hormones can bring on a heart attack. Take it easy, keep your skin warm, and shovel in the PM if you are susceptible.

I would get rid of the steel altogether, and triangulate the metal part with AL stock, then tig it to the blade...
Overkill? Prolly
But it will never rust.

Hey, I got a new one also !

Seriously though, I need to get a good aluminum one like that. I break a few of those cheap plastic shovels every season doing the walks.
Nearly impossible to find a good snow shovel around here anymore.
It is funny that we still have the aluminum shovel that my parents had when I was a kid .

I shovel. A lot.

The plastic ones I get are not crap, they last years and do a very good job. IN fact I have never broken one, only worn them out.

And the wet snow does not stick to them.

Wow, you have better luck than me, all it takes is a really cold day, and get stuck on a paver stone, or a big ice chunk, and they craaaack.!! . They may be great for a smooth paved driveway, or walkway, but dont hold up well in the rough stuff. I have to shovel cars out of my gravel lot.

I have an old style snow shovel. I prefer my newer plastic scoop with the steel blade across the front version.

This is way more ergonomic. I do have a 3 car wide concrete driveway that I mostly just push the snow back, but this works way better for shoveling.

It is light and I have had it for at least 10 years, likely more.
