Here is a new one !!

.

Looks like an attempt to keep the thing from catching fire, it was leaking trans fluid out the front seal as fast as I could pour it in . The guy asked me to look at this truck for him over the summer before he purchased it
I told him that if they gave it to him for free, they were ripping him off. I was right.

I bet a gourmet blend would have netted a good 10-12 hp though.

Amazing what people will do.

I would have used a light beer can to save weight.

That is a lot of effort to avoid having to make any effort.

Winner!

Just so I'm clear about what's going on here, is the can some sort of "heat shielding" over/around an exhaust pipe? The trans fluid was dripping on the exhaust?

Yes, done by the seller , whom I could read a mile away as a snake. He was trying to pawn this pos truck on my friend Alan . Alan is not real sharp, and I try to look out for him, He seemed mad at me when I kept telling him that this was not a good deal, keep looking

The 1st pic -
The holes drilled near the top seem are all wrong ! If I recall, all holes are supposed to be a least a one hole diameter and a 1/2 away from the edge .
There appears to be no locking mechanism as in lock washers or safety wire retaining the fastners
The second picture........
There is just no help for that and the owners and participants in that abomination of an abortion ought to be stripped of their tools and car.

That probably took half as long as just putting in a new seal. Of course the guy who did this has no clue how to replace a seal.
