Teflon Piston Pin Retainers
I have not seen this discussion here..
What's your experience ? I have used these Teflon buttons on various applications. But some will say these are not so good . AFAIK some high-end builders use these , Some custom pistons come made for these only. I would like to know what the brain trust thinks here.

I've always used them with full floating pins. Never had an issue with them.

Thanx
With a bit of research here I feel OK I had a so called expert tell me they are no good. People are slow to change . Even Catapiller uses them in some of their BIG diesels .

Technology / engineering in engine rotating assemblies have come a long way in recent years. I believe that Teflon buttons were used in place of or in addition to light weight pin cir-clips. The first I had seen were in fuel drag race engines where running time was extremely short and rapid rotating service was necessary between rounds.
Two of the largest sources of any engine drag when running is 1) Ring stack 2) Pistons. As technology in materials improved ring tension (against the cylinder wall), thickness even shape all play a part in sealing with the least amount of drag. Piston designs have also progressed where the stability in the bore is much better, expansion rates are a lot closer even under extreme heat, have much shorter skirts, pin off-sets that in most cases neutral and lastly incorporating the Teflon buttons as part of the design rather than just a a safety feature in case a cir clip dislodged.

Yes, I agree.
I have been researching a little more . There is just no end to schooling . The naysayers are just the bar room knockers wit no experience, and, of course, know everything !. I have been reading information from everywhere. One would be surprised (maybe) at the STUPID ) stuff written by idiots . All said and done the answer is - USE THEM !

Further info as I understand it, the buttons are incorporated to control side-to-side movement so to then enhance the piston design; reducing drag
