Best place/way to sell a suit

I've got a ~1.5 year old suit, that I think was about $800 at Nordstrom. I'm not looking to make a killing, but it's too new and nice to donate to Goodwill. Anyone got any history or experience selling this sort of thing?

Seems like there's eBay, I've never sold anything on eBay. Craigslist, I've sold a few things, but usually it's been the kind of stuff you'd toss in the back of a truck, not a suit. Any other recommendations?

It's a BOSS by Hugo Boss, wool, gray, 42L (James4/Sharp6) - which apparently has something to do with the cut/fit of the jacket and pants.

Charity donation and resulting tax write off is your easiest bet and most return. I doubt anyone will pay more than $80 on CL or Ebay for a used suit. It is also challenging to do long distance as it isn't easily tried on. Generally, clothing is not something that re-sells well. You should have bought something else instead, i.e. a nice rifle.

Take it back to Nordstrom and tell them that you want a refund. They have a very liberal return policy.

I'm a 42 long. What waist size? Please post a pic of you wearing it so I can see the cut and trim. I could use a decent grey suit.

Styleforum.net is a good place to sell used men clothes. Go to the classifieds forum for classic menswear section and you can see a lot of similar items for sale. The people on Styleforum recommend selling on eBay too. There is even a member who has a business taking consignments and selling them on eBay for them. That might be the way for you to go.

http://www.styleforum.net/f/6714/classic-menswear-classifieds

42 Long is a popular size. There is a snobbery toward regular label Hugo Boss on Styleforum, but the higher level labels are well regarded. I don't know enough to know what you have but it sounds nice. You should be able to sell it without too much trouble. Just go into the main forum section and ask how to go about selling it and what's it worth. People will tell you.

If the waist size can be tailored to 34" and the sleeves are long enough, I'll likely take it.

How tall are you? What's your inseam?

A quick ebay search for the hugo boss james sharp 42 in the completed listings brought up a number of them. Seems like a lot of people ask around 150 or so for used, but they really start selling/moving in the 100-80 range.
If you know your size and how a particular brand fits- ebay can be the way to go. A lot of people buy there- For kicks- there were a lot of suits selling in the 3000-4000 range and one for 12,000 that actually sold.
Who would have thunk it?

edit - the downside to selling on ebay is that you have to take the time to photograph it properly and arrange/manage the listing. There are huge internet info on photographing clothes/etc.

I'm 6'1" and about 185#.
I think the waist is 32". It's got space to be let out at least an inch, probably two, but I'm not a seamstress. I could take pics of the inside waistband of the pants to show you the extra material.

(per the HB website)

Suit (regular fit) by BOSS with fine felt at the undercollar of the notch lapels. A welt pocket on the chest and piped side pockets with turned down flaps make this BOSS suit in pure, top quality new wool in Super 100 quality look particularly handsome.

This is a description from Barneys for what I believe is the same or a very similar suit, I added the bits in the parentheses
Quote:
Jacket
Two-button
Notched lapels
Front flap pockets and chest pocket
Double vent
Interior pockets (3 on one side, one on the other)
Lined (half canvas, glued, I think)

Pant
Flat front
Quarter top pockets
Back button welt pockets

That's beautiful. Looks good on you.
Thanks for the info, Steve. I'm 5' 10" ...I think it would take too much tailoring for it to fit me.
Best regards, Don.

I'm pretty sure the pants could be tailored to a 34". There's a bunch of material at the rear of the waist, and I did get them taken in a bit when I purchased.. Inseam is 34 per my ruler which matches with what I normally buy in jeans and chinos.

Here's a shot of the rear of the waist.

Not really worried about it, no. Just trying to figure out a way to get a little extra $$ out of it without wasting my time trying something that won't work. Who couldn't use a little extra cash? If you had a chance to get $500 or $250 or $100 or EVEN $50 out of something, wouldn't you? If you saw $20 on the street, you'd pick it up right?

Yes, tell them there is something wrong with the suit and it won't fit around your waist anymore.

Handsome suit, handsome fella. You should keep it. Worst case, you could be buried in it when the day comes. You'd be the sharpest fella at the pearly gates. Maybe get a bit of leniency on the whole judgement thing.

I agree with this. 2nd opinion is to take it to a consignment shop. It's a nice garment, and a stylish, not cutting edge cut and fabric.

Consignment Store? Most good sized cities have at least one that caters to people searching for labels.
