As the seller; how does a PPI work out?
i'm selling.
sad but true. i was friends with the guy i bought the car from, so it was easy. really easy. if i remember he let me take it to a PPI. now as a seller, how does it work? potential buyer picks a shop and i have to take it by? in the Bay Area, that could be possible 5th ring of hell level of PIA.

Pretty much.
Your other option is to let buyer take it there. I don't advise that.

When we first thought about selling the M491 Shaun bought from us we had it PPId at the local p-car independent place just so we could be honest about its issues.... so it may work for you to take it, pay for a PPI yourself, and just make the document available to a prospective buyer

You can decide which shops you'd let perform a PPI, and the buyer can select from them.
That way, it's only the 4th ring of hell. |

You tell them where you live and they pick a shop close by. If not close by, no go. You call the shots. Market should still be good, where a seller should accomodate.

Be leery of the tons of flippers that will hit you up trying to hold the car for them. Telling you they will come by soon paying full price. They will leave you hanging, then talk you down on the phone etc. etc. - always keep your options open and tell everyone first guy with cash in hand gets the car and you aren't holding it for anyone.

When selling our SC I had 2 potential buyers ask for shops local to me for a PPI. I gave my suggestions to shops that are within 50 miles of me and told them to make an appointment and I would take the car. I was prepared to do so but then the buyer from overseas wired me a down payment.
Work with a potential buyer but don't drive all over Hell's Half Acre to do that. If a buyer is serious he will work with you to make the deal. Sorry to hear you are selling it but I understand.

When I sold my 993 last year a guy wanted me to take it 120 mi away to some shop I never heard of. I said 50 mi max or forget it . I suggested the dealer about 5 mi away or an indie I knew of but hadn,t used about 10 mi . I agreed to the 120 mi drive if he paid me $250 for my trouble , ( I would need gas and something to do all day while the car was there )He never called back. I ended up selling the car for more to a buyer about 350 mi away without a PPI and a $1000 non refundable deposit immediately followed by a pick up a week later with cash. You don,t need to bend over backwards unless the buyer offers to make it worth your while

When I bought my SC from a mere 11,000 miles away I knew Ruf GB was near Weighbridge London for a PPI. He took it there, the PPI checked out fine, Ruf offered to hold the car until the seller had been paid and both parties agreed to release the car to my shipping agent. Couldn't have been easier.

50 miles? you guys are super nice (or far from good shops) ! I recently sold my 68. I gave the buyer 3 options for PPI, all more or less equidistant from me and equally convenient (5 minutes). If he'd asked me to drive a couple hours to go to another shop of his choice, I'd have said "no thx" (I did to a previous buyer). I also made it clear to the shop not to touch the car until they had been paid in advance for the PPI. Did not want to be on the hook for it while it was still my car.

The nearest dealer is about 60 miles from me. The nearest independent shop that am familiar with is 50. I did my own work so I didn't have much use for either but did attend PCA events they held on site.

PS: In the Bay area you should be able to throw a rock and hit a place that will do a PPI ;-) Nice car, sorry you're selling. I'd ask you how much but a)SCs have gone way up and jumped my price/fun chart b) I just bought an Alfa for the same money ;-(

Vash, that's a really clean car and I am sure it will sell fast, so don't give in to their stupid demands. Like most have said here, if buyer is serious about the purchase, they will work with ya but you also should be somewhat flexible. Running around driving all they way to hell and taking a day off is not acceptable if they don't buy or grid you down. They will find something to take you to the girding stone. Good luck. How's house hunting coming along?
