				40 years ago today!

Hard to believe I did my very first autocross ever 40 years ago today. I only know that because I came across the dash plaque I received. They called it an enduro autocross because each "run" was five laps. The Hunt AAF is a fantastic site just outside of Dothan, Alabama. I had had my 914 since September of 1974. I kept trying to find the Porsche Club but had no luck. There was of course no internet. I asked the local dealer and they said they did not even know about PCA. I joined SCCA and they held their autocrosses at the Hunt AFF. It was not until then that I finally met a PCA member and he gave me an application to join PCA. In the 40 years I have never missed a year of autocrossing. I would guess I average 6 per year. Some years I have done way more. I bet I have done 300 autocrosses and 6 or 7 DEs at a real race track. I can't possibly care less about FTD or even how fast my car is against the other cars. I just go out there to have fun and hit the apex just right and chew up tires. I only compete against myself. On a regular basis I hear the other drives mention how smooth I look on course. Sunday is the next PCA Autocross. I can't wait. At our local autocross course.

I've been out of the hunt for 3-4 years now, but plan to get back in.......but no longer for TTOD. I fought a good fight for about 15 years.......got there also......after I got a good young co-driver.

Let me see, Feb 1976, I was probably out at recess at 6th grade.......The following year was the big blizzard with 10 foot drifts to play on. I plan to start autocrossing with my 944 here soon, hope to get a few issues sorted out first. | ||
