Barcelona Day #2 a bit like Day #1.
Tons of laps for Mercedes and Ferrari... Renault blew up but had a sense of humor about it - official tweet: "From our own special analysis (no tech. person involved), we think the car tried to tweet, realised it couldn't & reverted to smoke signals." Jolyon Palmer already sounds like a whiner / not much of a team player... Haas looking solid in midfield but on soft tires... McLaren did 117 laps!!!! That's like 6 race distances last year ;-) Rosberg did 152 laps - damn !!!! He''s in shape ! 1. Sebastian Vettel Germany Ferrari-Ferrari 101 laps 1m 22.810s 2. Daniel Ricciardo Australia Red Bull-TAG-Heuer 112 laps 1m 23.525s 3. Sergio Perez Mexico Force India-Mercedes 79 laps 1m 23.650s 4. Nico Rosberg Germany Mercedes-Mercedes 152 laps 1m 24.867s 5. Marcus Ericsson Sweden Sauber-Ferrari 96 laps 1m 25.237* 6. Valtteri Bottas Finland Williams-Mercedes 120 laps 1m 25.872s 7. Esteban Gutierrez Mexico Haas-Ferrari 67 laps 1m 25.873s 8. Pascal Wehrlein Germany MRT-Mercedes 46 laps 1m 25.925s 9. Fernando Alonso Spain McLaren-Honda 117 laps 1m 26.082s 10. Jolyon Palmer Britain Renault-Renault 42 laps 1m 26.189s 11. Max Verstappen Netherlands Toro Rosso-Ferrari 106 laps 1m 26.755s |

They've also drastically changed the qualifying process and introduced a Driver of the Day Award (actual award, TBD) in the interest of creating more excitement for those with short attention spans. You know who you are... JR |

The big issue I see with the new qualifying deal (slowest driver out every after 90 seconds) is that Pirelli added a new softer tire.... some lower teams will run their super-duper-soft tires right away and force everyone to do the same. Or gamble. That could be interesting or effed up, depending.... I thought the current qually thing was OK....

Sounds goofy to me, the current qali is pretty intense. I like how you can wait until the end if you want but risk weather, technical issue, track spacing... lots going on.

Mix the new quali with the temperment of F1 drivers, and you have the makings of a giant chick fight every Saturday.
