Pretty amazing ski jump video

I always felt like typical camera angles doesn't really show the speed/intensity of a ski jump..I think this video does a great job of it:

cool. What's the deal with all of the stuff sticking up out of the ground? Sensors of some sort, or a way to check the film and tell how far and/or how fast the skier was going?

Jumper reference material? Without it, everything looks white so no good way for a contestant to track or time the jump/landing--especially if the sun is causing issues with glare?

Garage
I have a house about 15mins from there, recently the Slovenian government have invested a lot in upgrading the jump/fly hills and they now have now the largest ski flying jump in the world so expect this record to be broken.

I watched a world cup event there a couple of years ago but they were limited to one of the smaller hills due to the building work going on, even watch 115m long jumps was might impressive so seeing some one fly 0.25km is going to be spectacular

Down is quicker than up, this video is good at showing how steep it all is

Distance markers. Just like braking points at the track, but backwards

When you're in that tuck position you can't really see forward so the markers tell you when to spring.

Is Cooper's Hill sponsored by a local orthopedic or neurosurgical group?

the markers seem to cover the entire hill as well as the landing area. I assume the markers down the center of the hill serve as visual reference to avoid the "agony of defeat".

When I was about 14, I stood at the bottom of this jump which was the location of the 1972 winter olympics.

Okurayama near Sapporo, Japan

Is this thread a lead up to the upcoming movie about Eddie the eagle Edwards??

I loved when that guy came on the scene.
