Question: Admission to West Point
My stepson (currently a junior in high school and taking international baccalaureate courses) is considering West Point or VMI.
In regards to age the USMA admissions website for West Point states that you must be: - at least 17 and not yet 23 years of age on July 1st of your year of admission. Seems straight forward but is the 'year of admission' your first year of class or the year that you applied and are admitted? Thanks...

my civil engineer's son is currently enrolled in West Point. If you want, I can give you his number and you can ask about the process.

Date of Admittance is the day they "Report" on R-Day, usually late June.
Check out United States of America Service Academy Forums to learn a lot more.

Can't recall this being an issue when I applied 25+ years ago, during my HS senior year (I was 17). Seems like you just have to be 17 as of July 1st, the summer you report to the USMA.

Mt Father was a West Point grad and my son is currently a senior at VMI.
PM if you have any specific questions about VMI. It is a great place.

It is the first semester of classes.
I, at one point in my life, taught there.

I saw a documentary about a military academy once. George C. Scott was the dean and Timothy Hutton was the top cadet. It didn't work out well, especially with the Tom Cruise red beret guy.
