A special place in hell indeed! Hayden is a beauty.

Now I want to leave work early just to scratch my dogs' ears and rub my cats' bellies. Sociopathic behavior is something I just cannot comprehend.

Well - I know this has been said but these same doush-bag people treat their kids the same......................Devil with his evil at work for sure.

I believe the excuse was that it was a "cultural thing".

Lots of folks rushed to forgive him, they said he did his time so now lets' give him back his $15 million year job. Not me.
F him and the horse he rode in on.

I'm with you Sammy (never thought I'd say that ;)) The perp in OP post and Vick are total scum. Get rid of em. Vick was only sorry he got caught.

There are seriously disturbed people out there and I'm not sure you can rehabilitate most of them in any way. They should get what they give. I work at a residential home for boys in "the system" and the stories of abuse and neglect get your blood boiling for sure.

On Pit Bulls, I'm convinced it is an owner treatment and breeding issue. Many are abused. Some are bred to be aggressive, etc.

My buddy found this sweetie downtown lost. Bad skin infection, tumor that needed removal. Nails so long they were curling back under her paw pads. Rotten tooth that needed to be removed. He's taken her in and she is the sweetest and most gentle animal. Immediately bonded to him and his wife.

This is my sweet girl. Her name is Olive and she was also abused as a puppy. We adopted her at the age of 3 months. She still had her staples in when we met her. Her leg was broken in eight places and left to heal in that condition when she was surrendered to the Humane Society. Our family feels extremely blessed that she decided to adopt "us".

There is no excuse for animal abuse and cruelty. Zero tolerance.

Thank you Patrick and DIL for helping sweet little Hayden.

I too have Zero tolerance for anyone who abuses an animal, and have stepped in and asked someone I say kicking a dog, how they would like it if I started kicking them, and if I saw that again, they would know how it feels..

It's an emotional morning at the office. My daughter-in-law is active in the Miami Valley Pit Crew pit bull rescue. She works for me, and I let her bring dogs in to work when they can't stay at home for some reason. Last night she got Hayden, a one year old girl who had been starved and soaked in lighter fluid and set on fire. She has had part of an ear, part of her lip, and some of her nipples burned off. She may be blind in one eye.

It's crazy here. People come by the office with tears, later they come by happy that Hayden is doing so well, then they're angry and want to kill the SOB that did this. We are so happy she is alive and doing remarkably well, sad that she was put through this, but my God, how can a human being do that to a dog?

Here she is in my office this morning. She already looks a lot better than she did yesterday. She's a bit shy of men, so I keep my distance, but we'll be buds soon enough. We just want her to be calm, free of pain, and put some weight on.

Any updates on the pooch? Is she doing well?

wdfifteen 03-03-2016 07:14 AM

^^

Thank you so much for asking. Hayden is mending, she still goes to the vet every few days to get dead skin removed. She is getting friendlier and more trusting every day. She must have been abused by a tall man with a beard, because she does her alarm bark at me sometimes. I'm the only one. We were playing on the floor with a rag bone yesterday and she got so excited she did a play bow for the first time. She's doing great.

we got two more dogs this week. The animal shelter called about a beautiful 6-7 year old sheppard that was dropped off to be gassed. He is a perfect, beautiful boy. I guess it was just too inconvenient for his owners to treat him decently. He won't be hard to find a home for.
Our second new arrival, Dan, is actually still at the vet. He is another pit bull. He was tied to something and had acid or some chemical thrown on him. He is much worse than Hayden. I choke up even thinking about a strong, smart, trusting dog being tied up and tortured in this way. I don't have any pictures. I'm not sure I could show them if I did. Not without a warning. Sometimes, being around these dogs who are so noble in their way, I'm ashamed to be a human.

Glad I don't do FB...couldn't bear to look. Great news about Hayden....I expect to see a pic of him and that "mean, scary old man" getting along in a grand fashion pretty soon though. You're a good man Patrick...as are those in the rescue business IMO. Personally, I'm not sure I could do it....it'd be gut wrenching, but man what rewards...those dawgies KNOW...that's for sure ;)

How do you legislate against the dark side in human beings...some people will never see anything but cruelty as the way to be.

Reiver 03-04-2016 03:34 PM

Great job on the dog rescue....we've a pit bull 'stray'...his biggest drawback is his licking everyone to death. He wags his tail so hard his whole butt swings left/right.
Sweet mutt.

wdfifteen 03-04-2016 07:55 PM

I've been through a few of these, but I am really way on the periphery - I write checks and provide a place for day care for the worst cases. Dan's case is just ... I don't know. The poor boy was so frantic and in pain that he clawed his own nails off . I am astounded at the cruelty of some people and the incredible love emanating from others. This is from the facebook page. It's about one of our angels, and about Dan

Dan is living in his foster home an getting better. He has to be debrided once a week, but the vet thinks he will heel. (see what I did there?)

Hayden is much better. She has bright eyes and is less fearful. Most of her scars are healing. Purty, ain't she?

Her right ear is still raw and needs debriding once a week. How could a human being starve such a beautiful animal and set her on fire?

Awesome update...Patrick. No human who deserves to live could ever do that IMO...

Such a terrible story but getting a better ending.

Special place in hell for idiots that do things like this to a dog.

.
Her ribs are showing, but I'll bet she loves to eat. ;)
This is a good photo...shows her innocent look in her eyes, face, and stance.
They just want to belong, don't they? !!!
