PickleBall

Looking at picking up the Onix 7 5 in graphite. Sports Authority has a sale this weekend, but they only have the composite paddle online - $10 more for the graphite, which I was told the stores carry.

Anyone else play?

We have a rec center near the office, and I've been playing with work buddies twice a week.

It's big in SWFL.

My Arizona Mom plays in a league at her retirement community. I kicked some 80 year old butts when I visited last year. Had a ton of fun. They take it very seriously.

We also play against an older crowd, but down here everyone is older. That is one of the beauties of the game, it's not so demanding on the body, but you still get a workout.

Buy the graphite racquet. I learned the hard way after recently getting into mountain biking that sometimes you should buy the best at the beginning if you plan to commit to an activity. It wasn't hard to sell "beginner's" equipment, but I could have skipped that step.

Unless you think you will only play once -- but apparently that's not what happens to people who play.

Super hot up here again in the PNW where it was invented. In the early 80s it seemed like every cul-de-sac had a pickle ball court painted on it and we always had a pickle ball unit in PE.

Rumor has it they are trying to make this the official state sport of Washington.

It's big.

Every Master Plan in my area is putting in courts as well as brand new "Entertainment" restaurants centered around Pickle Ball popping up.

It's not very big around here. Once in a while I hear of it.

Corn Hole is very common.

Yeah, I think cornhole (fargin stupid name) is big here. I'd never heard of it before I moved to TX, and even then, it was years before I heard of it.

I knew it was a big thing among the elderly set when a friend of mine said he was playing it a lot. This was about three years ago. He is always on the cutting edge of whatever is trending.

Probably a regional thing for the most part. I likely played for the first time around 1982.

Played it in college - was tons of fun and doesn't require a lot of space.

Many years later I discovered Touchtennis, which I prefer.

I have a condo/apartment I keep in Washington Park Denver. They cleared the top of the parking garage to make it a "pickle ball" court. After watching dozens of matches from my windows, I don't get it. Tennis on a smaller scale?

Yup.

Full swings, slicing, cutting etc. All this on a court that doesn't consume over 7,000 sqft and require a high fence (10'-12') to keep balls from escaping (most of the time).

Plus, when you've reached a certain age, not having to cover as much ground is a big plus.

I play it’s fun. My brother in law has developed paddles and gear. He lives in Mexico and plans on selling them to resorts. All of the family on the wife’s side are heavily into it. I like it because it’s like giant ping pong.
