Academy awards, WTF?

I caught a few minutes, but have seen lots more of the program last night and have to say it was the worst AA I've seen in a very long time. The race card was so over the wall that it became a joke. Black, black, black this and that, from Al Sharpton to Chris Rock, it was IMO a step backwards to the tradition of what once was a nice evening of entertainment. "If you do a better job, you get recognized", but it seems to be "we, as a person of color, should be recognized because we are black". Give ne a friking break.

stealthn 02-29-2016 05:50 PM

Yes, where was the outcry from the Hispanics and Asian, and etc., etc.

That was sad to watch

onewhippedpuppy 02-29-2016 08:04 PM

I often wonder, who the hell actually watches that crap?

legion 02-29-2016 08:13 PM

I don't work in an industry that spends 3 months out of every year congratulating itself. I don't see any purpose in watching another industry engage in collective masturbation.

LakeCleElum 02-29-2016 08:22 PM

I wonder if the companies that spent millions to advertise realize how many of us got disgusted and switched channels early on? What a waste of time....

Congratulate themselves for really, in the grand scheme of things, accomplishing nothing.

porsche4life 02-29-2016 08:58 PM

I spent yesterday evening building a planting box for our garden, don't regret not watching one little bit.... Generally skip all the awards shows...

Hah - I know I don't!

sc_rufctr 02-29-2016 09:17 PM

It's certainly crap but most of what's on TV is as well.

I don't miss it...

porsche4life 02-29-2016 09:17 PM

I doubt we are the target demographic...

I think it's around 800 million people worldwide? Give or take.

Evans, Marv 02-29-2016 09:54 PM

I also wonder if there might be any Hispanics, Asians, or any other ethnicities anywhere in the world of movie making. Seems like there are only black & white people. I did read something about the Academy being almost completely white, over 50, and that they don't even have to watch the movies they cast votes about. Kind of reminds me of what Rick was talking about regarding the Washington crowd. I think just not blacks, but all minorities in that industry have something to gripe about though.

rattlsnak 02-29-2016 10:04 PM

i didnt even know it was on last night until I saw a glimpse of it on SnapChat..

Joe Bob 02-29-2016 10:23 PM

Me too, but I don't have cable. I get my news and movies on the 'net.

pcardude 03-01-2016 05:39 AM

what Chris Rock said was extremely racist.

ckelly78z 03-01-2016 05:51 AM

Never sat down to watch any of the awards shows. But truly can't wait to see the outcome of this presidential election, and how many of the problem people on this issue have promised to move out of country, (including the honorable rev Sharpton, Whoopi G, and Rosie O.)....that would be a blessing.

recycled sixtie 03-01-2016 05:51 AM

I watched some of it switching between the Oscars and Downton Abbey Manners.
I preferred Chris Rock over Ricky Gervais. I don't get caught up in race stuff. All races are human beings. Life is too short to get upset about this kind of stuff....:)

bkreigsr 03-01-2016 06:26 AM

How does the dude get away with his remark about 'blacks being shot by cops on the way to the movies'?
This guy's supposed to be a comedian?
Bill K

Jay Auskin 03-01-2016 06:38 AM

He's actually pretty good about making jokes both ways. His joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, and the analogy of it being like him boycotting Rihanna's panties was hilarious.

Don Ro 03-01-2016 06:40 AM

Last night I heard a person state that 12.7% - 13.2% of the US population is black and that 12.5% of Hollywood actors/actresses is black.
Sounds like the 'grievance industry' at work.
.
Grievance: - a real or imagined wrong or other cause for complaint or protest.

sammyg2 03-01-2016 06:56 AM

What is this "academy awards" thing you speak of, and do you miss your man card? ;)

Ditto. Never have watched, never will. When I read about it in the news, the fewer names I recognize, the prouder I am.

URY914 03-01-2016 07:19 AM

When you have Piers Morgan complaining you know you have a problem....

"So by the time we got to Leonardo, my caring, sharing, right-on liberal heart was smashed to smithereens.
I had nothing left in the worthy issue tank.
My 'serious cause' locker was empty.
I just wanted someone, anyone, to stand there, clutch their award to their beating jubilant chest, and resolutely desist from the desire to lecture me about anything.
My prayers went sadly unanswered."

I know everyone is pissed because Vincent Price never won but that's no reason to go all racist on everyone

I generally don't care for Piers Morgan, but that was spot on, right there.

I mean really, the guy, Dicaprio, with his private jet, pulling again from the Hollyweird serious cause locker to lecture others about CO2 fears.... wow.

And Chris Rock promulgating racism . . doing what he can to keep that bent schtick alive. I mean, what does he have if he hasn't white guilt to leverage?

A bunch of self-stroking, out of touch, bubble-boys. . .AWARDS!!

Solving for irrational zeros: Whiteness in mathematics teacher education
by Warburton, Trevor Thayne, Ph.D., THE UNIVERSITY OF UTAH, 2015, 327 pages; 10010629

Abstract:

For many, mathematics and social justice are perceived as incompatible. Several mathematics education researchers have noted resistance to social justice among mathematics teachers. However, mathematics education has a consistently negative impact on the education of students of color. This study seeks to better understand the nature of this resistance by studying how preservice secondary mathematics teachers grapple with understanding social justice mathematics education

Racism exists....... it is a shame that all those acting millionaires have to deal with the injustice.... I am taking solace in the fact that they have an effective vehicle such as the academy awards to air their grievances....

Apparently viewership was way down this year.

they need someplace to perseverate on racism. You know, because racism . .except when they do it. Then they're just digging down deep into their serious cause locker.

That because folks are catching on to Tumblr for all their porn needs. Speaking of which, will you excuse me please, it's lunch-time!!!

craigster59 03-01-2016 09:23 AM

Nice to see that while they were dealing with racism and embracing diversity they found the time to throw in a few Asian/ small dick jokes.

creaturecat 03-01-2016 09:28 AM

Chris Rock ruined it for me.
Racial diversity is the norm for film production employees in Vancouver.
The Grammys had a disproportionate black contingent. i did not here any complaints.

Bill Douglas 03-01-2016 09:29 AM

Al Sharpton should have got an academy award in the Tragic Faces category.

Umm Chris Rock. Surely in rehearsals someone would have said his speech is not OK. And if he is being paid, which I'm sure he is, it's not the time for a personal rant.

I know right.

Leo was whining about having to go to the Southern Hemisphere for snow and cold weather, well Leo, it's usually not cold and snowy here in the summer, you should have waited for winter. I mean Leo, the seasons are reversed, didn't anyone tell you, it's the winter here summer there thingy.

BeyGon 03-01-2016 09:43 AM

At least Chris's daughters sold some cookies to those white racists at the awards, to help with their white guilt.

pitargue 03-01-2016 10:03 AM

i hate the Academy Awards because it means it's time to get serious about doing taxes. It's just a timestamp event for me...

scottmandue 03-01-2016 10:19 AM

I'm a big fan of diversity and Chris Rock (though it is difficult to get past his potty mouth when he does standup)

I am not a big fan of award shows... to the point where I will not voluntarily watch any of them.

I am also not a huge movie fan, but my wife is so we occasionally go to a movie on date night. Therefore I don't have a encyclopedic knowledge base of all the moves that were available for awards.

I don't hear much from the protesters RE: who should have got an award that didn't?
