Slipping by on LSD
Neither the sales guys, parts guys, nor service guys could tell me: what kind of LSD is this? A clutch-type like positraction or a gear-type like Torsen or Quaife?

Clutch. Part # 18 are the slip discs. Torsen gears look totally different than #6 and 7

Clutch style - which is the smoothest in my experience.

Thats a nice clear diagram of a clutch LSD,
So what controls the clamping load on the cluch packs? Are they biased with a steady spring tension or does the reactive torque on gears 7 & 13 cause them too pull apart and lock up the clutch?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's a LSD from a 2016 Colorado Crew Cab with a 43 bodystyle...

Answered in 2 minutes, impressive.
The lockup is controlled by how the clutch plates are stacked, or that is my understanding anyway.

I have a Torsen on my Silverado. I LOVE it. I was hoping I could get one on a diesel Colorado. No dice for 2016.

That is a diagram for the Eaton G80 locking diff offered by GM. It is not a "LSD" in the conventional sense. It has a governor weight that flys out when differential wheel speeds exceed a certain level, which drives the clutch packs together and locks the diff solid.
