So, want to make a gearheads head explode.

Or, maybe just anyone with a functional brain?

All You Need To Know About Catalytic Converters Is They Shouldn't Exist

Pistons pump oil on the crankshaft to make your car go. Who knew?

Is this some sort of parody site? That can't even be real.

Unfortunately, I don't think it was The Onion. From what I know of that site is that no, it is not satire. The article was in an email. I don't visit that place otherwise.

Then again, no person can be that short on brains and have a drivers license.

hmmm, well, if he is thinking that the unspent fuel in its hydrocarbon form is the fuel he is talking about then he's wrong. There are 2 chemical reactions taking place - an oxidation reaction which oxidizes the CO and the hydrocarbons to produce CO2 and water - ya add O2. The other is a reduction reaction where NOx is converted into O2 and Nitrogen, this is where N is removed.

The article doesn't take the over feel of being completely sarcastic or satirical so I think the guy basically doesn't know what he is writing about. A 10 sec search would have done him better...

An editor breaking his keyboard would have been best. Of course if the editor has it in for him...

+1 but I had to re-read the part about pistons pumping oil onto the crankshaft just to make sure that I read it correctly.

I mean it makes sense to use the oil as a fuel and a lubricant. I read on another forum that it has to be a really lightweight oil and has to have high zinc. It can increase power by quite a few horses. It also helps reduce the amount of fuel your cat uses. Although my high-flow cat pumps through a lot of fuel, but hey, it's a track car.

I read that there is a carburetor that will make your car get 100mpg but the oil companies bought the patents and hid them away. I think it works by doing something when the fuel pump squirts oil on the crankshaft but it can't work with a catholic converter because of the Russians ... Or Chinese, I forget which. Anyway, I have a pocket full of Tater Tots and a six pack of diet RC waiting for me so I'll have to get back to you on the details. I love science.

The article may have been written by the brother of the woman in the u tube video who was observing the rainbow made by her backyard sprinkler and wondering what chemicals were being put into the water. She stated it never used to do that.
I am willing to conjecture he did not live in a large urban center in the sixties.

I blame this thread for getting me on a random youtube search-so here you go-

ohhh... and another much better presentation-by soaking the hose for 5-10 minutes to insure there was no deterioration, I can vouch this is first class research.

Of course the metal for the rest of the car liberated itself from the ground willingly. The article nearly made my head explode.
