How would you screen for the "right" buyer of your cherished 911 ?
 

Slow night, so apologies for a weak thread, but at least it's not a 7 min. video of me driving around and complaining about the BMW dealer.

Saw this in a listing.
Would you share this sentiment when it comes time to sell ?
Or can the buyer take your car to the crusher for all you care?

Bonus points: I know a flipper who pretends to be an "loving enthusiast" (as a way of pilfering the cherished car at a below market rate), and even spends hours on the phone (and at the seller's house) becoming "friends" with the seller
....only to turn right around and flip the car to anyone with more money. How would you filter out this caliber of faker? (I have one solution to this, but will include it in a reply below)

Right buyer shows up with cash for full asking price.

Once the check clears, they can drop my car off a cliff for all I care.

When I went to see the 89 Targa I bought the woman asked me what I was going to do with it. I drove up in my extremely nice 71 455 Buick Skylark and said if I liked driving it I was going to sell the Buick and make this my daily driver. She almost didn't sell it to me. I pointed out I took good care of my cars.

In a weak moment I listed mine for sale. Of the first 5 inquiries, 3 were scams, one was an analysis of my ad by a disinterested party and one e-mailed numerous requests for detailed pics with no follow-up. Screening requires more time and patience than I have. Gladly, she's no longer for sale and safely in my garage.

But what I would screen for is simple. An honest, legitimate buyer with the interest and ability to follow through on an agreeable transaction. Not as easy to find as you'd think.

That is not the way it went when I got mine.

The week before, someone show up with the money but his answer to "Why do you want a Porsche" was that is girlfriend did not like to ride on the backseat of the Harley...

Well, the wife owner's answer was that he would never get that one, which was good for me as I pass the interview with flying colour even though I did not offer the asking price :D:):D

Turn out we had lots in common, same Porsche dream since we were kid, same age, both married divorcees that were 5 years older and so on.

To make things more leery, when he got home after delivering the car with his wife in tow, he called and ask me is my neighbour were Donna & Gary (which they were)???

His wife recognized the street name and check her address book and it turn out she and Donna were neighbour a few years prior to her divorce but stayed friends. He went on to tell me that Donna had celebrate her 50th birthday riding in the back seat. The next day, Donna saw the car in the drive way and told me she rode the car before I did.

Its a small world.

This is my dilemma. I have a really cool driver quality Targa that I probably should part with, if only because I have other stuff going on in life and the car doesn't get the attention it deserves. Its not nice enough for the Rennlist crowd, but I can't bear to deal with the cl flakes, so where do I sell it... and the classifieds here have drawn no interest.

When I sold my SC last July the buyer seemed nice and his money was green. I didn't know that he was going to flip it but once it left my care it didn't really matter to me.

He sold it to a guy in Belgium that advised me that he had always wanted a 911 and was able to realize that dream. He sent pics of it at Waterloo and he had that silly grin that told me he was a happy fella.

Good enough for me.

Pretty much yes.

I had a buyer interested in the bug that was some hipster kid who was wanting to daily it. Thuy asked me what I thought about that, I told her I thought it was dumb, but if he produced the money I didn't give a damn.


After driving it I think he realized it wouldn't be exactly the best car to DD here in AZ!

Fellow pelicanhead was interested in my car.

On the test drive, he asked if we could stop by his bank to get a cashier's check.
Next stop, we stopped by my bank up the road where I deposited a cashier's check.

The funny part-

A few months later, a guy who earier tried to buy the car but offered a lowball price called me back and again wanted to buy the car.
When I told him it had been sold, he wanted me to try to get the car back so I could sell it to him.

Ummmmm........ No.

Wow, I didn't realize the marketplace had become so... Shady - since I sold my Carrera.

I guess I will be facing the same challenges when my 911SC is up for sale. Speaking of which I should update my signature line.

The right buyer would matter to me if the car was of sentimental value. I understand that it is odd to get attached to things but can't honestly deny that part of myself.

My Targa was not running (or fully assembled) when I acquired it. The previous owner answered all my questions to the best of his knowledge and let me climb over the car for an hour or so. I offered less than his asking price and he turned me down as he had a few others with appointments to review the car.

Two weeks later he calls me up and asks if I'm still interested for my offer price. I told him "yes" and he states the car is mine. He then told me that he had two other offers for more money (one offer exceeding his asking price), but I'm the only one he met who seemed committed to putting the car back on the road and not parting it out. He had held onto this car for 10 years with hopes of putting it back on the road, but health issues kept getting in the way.

I think Sugarwood's question is a serious one to some folks. An old 911 might be just a car to some but have huge emotional attachment to others. The next owner of my 911 (assuming I sell it sometime) will have an interesting interview...

Cmon guys, these cars are still just cars, even at $40k ... I look for a painless sale without any shenanigans. If I get a fair price, I would not care what happens with it. What pains me is flipper dicks that call and say they will pay full price and be there tomorrow. Then they don't show up and start wearing you down on the phone, trying to get the price down etc. etc. BTDT on my last sale (for a friend). I got pretty short with most people when I realized what's going on. To much excitement in the 911 market for sure.

Cash or certified funds, and CLEAR TITLE.... After I bought mine and the scuzz ball PO telling me the title was clear I learn there's 3k in delinquent DMV fees due. Had to threaten lawsuit to get him to pay up.
