Group Canyon Run? Stunt Rd, Decker, Mulholland, Yerba Beuna?

Anybody interested in doing a SoCal group run? We can meet at Starbuck in Malibu to start and finish closer to the guys living south.

A weekday would be best, when it's not so heavy patrolled, but a weekend can work for a less spirited drive and lunch at Rock Store or The Old Place.

We can run PCH to Yerba Bueno, down Decker, up Encinal to Mulholland, then Mulholland over to Stunt, finishing back at Starbucks.

If we can organize 6am surf fly fishing, Piru shooting range and BBQ at Hugh's in the winter, we should be able to get a small group together for a canyon run????

Decker...

Yerba Buena...

I used to do those runs, I'm not a good enough driver, way too fast going around a curve with 20-30 pcars at 80 mph and coming up on 50 bicyclists. I'm up for shooting and a BBQ at my crib however.

Those days are over Hugh. Even had we not outgrown that behavior, the canyons are heavily patrolled now. I was thinking more a fun drive and a few beers at lunch.

In that case, I may be up for it.

Yeah, just enjoy the views. Why don't we finish with a BBQ in your back yard Paridise? Maybe stick Oak Tree in the middle. I have a new Colt Match Target I haven't fired yet.

Yeah, come over to my 18 acre crib while its still green from the rain. I'll do burgers and dogs and you guys can bring the suds and potato salad and such. All are welcome. I have a 330 foot driveway and it would look great filled with P-cars.

Yerba Buena is no bueno - heavily pot-holed and rutted. I'd avoid that - was a kidney buster on the bike. Beautiful though.

I did this route yesterday:

Grew up on those roads. Sad to see what has become of it. Anybody remember the kid in the Viper who lost it?

My biggest worry when riding up there is someone crossing the yellow line and taking me out. That can happen pretty much anywhere (especially around town), but there are guys who get in over the heads in the twisties.

That corner is where rockstorephotos.com sets up. People get even stupider when there is a camera around.

You guys are becoming a bunch of Chicken Littles. You say..."Sad to see what has become of it" and show a year old clip of a solo car crash with some numbnuts driving like an idiot in front of the camera. Are you kidding me? There are more crashes, cars on their top, and serious injury on the 405 FWY in a couple months then in the Santa Monica Mtns in the last decade.

In the 60's guys were racing these roads solid axle hot rods. The 70's were notorious for Porsche guys holding road races on Encinal and Mulholland. The area is tame by comparison now.

The Rennlist guys get together for these runs frequently. Nobody crashed of plows into a peloton of cyclists. You can't speed for more than a couple miles before getting hit by CHP with radar anyway. It's just a beautiful cruise with great views and some fun places to stop and eat.

I live five minutes from Mulholland and ride my road bike and drive these roads weekly, sometimes daily going to LA, and I haven't seen a single crash or injured cyclist in years. What scares me most on my bike is the gardeners in old trucks.

CHP and sheriff keep things pretty toned down.

It certainly is more dangerous on a typical city street on a bike. People on cell phones are way more of a threat that someone in the canyons...
