Upper GI and Colonoscopy ...

Going in Wednesday for an Upper GI and Colonoscopy. No real food tomorrow - clear liquids, chicken broth, no beer. I take the SUPREP tomorrow night and again very early AM.

Just hope they don't use the same tube! If so then hope its Upper GI first...

Any of you get the combo deal?

wdfifteen 03-21-2016 10:54 AM

Not in the same day. I tried to talk the doc into it, but he wouldn't do it the same day.

Had both but not at same time. No big deal and got the ten-year colon come back for a look-see plan.

SeanPizzle 03-21-2016 11:39 AM

if they use the same scope, make sure they do the GI first, for obvious reasons.

Do you have some symptoms that you are trying to address?

The drugs must be good. Supposedly you're awake though the event - can't remember anything about it. Get ready to tell the medical staff your deepest secrets.

If you do the preparation properly you will be all cleaned out. They can start at either end.

Use the same probe? I hear they just stick it one end and keep pushing 'till the camera sees daylight. So, yeah, starting from the top would be preferable. :D

the prep tastes stunningly awful but the twilight stuff they use to knock you out eliminates any unpleasantness. as in once on the table my colonoscopy was more pleasant than a hair cut.

UGI - upper gi- is when you swallow barium.
I suspect you mean upper endoscopy.
I have had both together several times.
Colon cancer 11 years ago- so 10 colonoscopies and 5 assoicated upper endoscopies.
No big deal. You go to sleep. Wake up, feel fine. Wonder why you can not eat rough solid foods for 2 days.
Easy
Good luck
Gary

I've had them both on the same day.
Upper first, lower second.

I think the whole thing was finished in about 20 minutes.

The meds are sublime.

M.D. Holloway 03-21-2016 01:38 PM

it is an mean upper endoscopy, my mistake. decide not to do the mean upper endoscopy because it would be $600 out of pocket and frankly they are looking for an ulcer that may or may not be there... I'll pass on that portion...

your doc is paying for a boat, plane, ex-wife and or mistress. imo, consider getting a different one as he has his wallet's best interest in mind--not yours.

I'd relay a joke my wife told while going under, but it would surely offend....

I'm on the 5 year plan on account of pollips.

My Mom is going in tomorrow at 12:30

Craig T 03-21-2016 02:51 PM

I had both in one day. Before starting, the anesthesiologist said "This will help you relax" and put something on my IV. In what I thought was an immediate reply I asked, "will I be awake for it?". He said, "you're already done". Weird. Propifil I assume?

Next one at 60, in five years.

jhynesrockmtn 03-21-2016 03:12 PM

I've had both an endoscopy and colonoscopy during the same visit, not a big deal. I'm probably due, Doc is checking last time mine were done.

I have had colonoscopy tests since 1984 when I was in the Navy and had a bunch of internal issues. I did have one where I was awake but really sedated and it was interesting to watch the screen show your internals as the camera goes in and out. All the others I have been knocked out. On the 10th of this month I had an endoscope and colonoscopy at the same time and at the hospital I go to they have different probes for each test so no issues there.

Fentanyl or Propophol (Michael Jackson drug) ; either one you will not feel a thing.
The worst part is no water after midnight. After the purge you are dehydrated and no water is a bummer. You can rinse your mouth with water and spit it out but don't swallow it.
Good luck!

Pray for this drug. I had it. Talkin' to nurses about how damned clean my colon was during procedure. Like I was a boss.

They could have stuffed a microbus up my butt or down my throat. Bring it.

Now, the best thing is the next 24 hours. Best sleep - in and out - delicious and divine.

I think it was the Michael Jackson stuff.
