Potential Jeep Cherokee Value?
My Dad died a couple of months ago and his wife is trying to downsize and get rid of some stuff. His wife has a 1992 Jeep Cherokee Sport (4WD) that she would like to sell. She has owned it for probably 20-22 years. It is literally a time capsule. It looks like new. 117k miles, pristine interior, 5-speed, 6-cyl. Everything works.
She has no idea what it's worth, so I am trying to help her out some. NADA/KBB show a value of around $2k or so. A quick check of AutoTrader listings show people asking around $3k on wore out Cherokees of the same vintage with twice the miles. Any opinions on what she could reasonably sell this for? It's in Kingsport, TN. Thanks!

I would think it should fetch $3500-4000 if it's in great condition. The XJ's are very popular right now (at least in Calif) with most examples on the market looking pretty beat.

Prior to us getting a 2007 Jeep Liberty last month, I was looking at the later models of the "old style boxy" Jeep Cherokees (up to about 2002) The really nice ones with all the options, and low milege were going for $5000-$6000.

The 5-speed is rare and worth a premium on these. Lowish miles and rust-free, I would clean it up, take good pics, and try it on EBay for $6k or so.

My hope (which isn't a good strategy obviously), is that the condition of this thing will merit some sort of premium. Most Cherokees of this vintage around here are absolutely ragged out. This one looks almost new inside and out. You just don't see that.
I'm a big fan of '80s Toyota pickups and those are the same category. 98% of what's out there is ragged out and what isn't sells for $5k-$10k. I was hoping this Cherokee would be similar.

I think $3,500 for a 92 would be big money.

Now in 993 land ...

Cleaned up, documented and advertised properly on Ebay will tell you what it is worth. I'd say 5k? The mileage is actually not low, but decent ...

The Sport was the middle model with the 4.0L straight six. Good car. I could see it's intrinsic value far exceeding $2-3K.

The Sport typically had crank windows, steel wheels, etc., could be ordered w/ more stuff, though. They are reliable. Maybe ask about $4k and see where it goes; if it's really clean, you may find someone that really wants il. Can always drop the price or negotiate. Last edited by tcar; 03-22-2016 at 12:56 PM.. |

If it's only rwd then realistically two grand.
Prolly can hold out for awhile to get 3 grand on it if it's a 4x4. I bought my last Cherokee. A super clean 93 country model "fully loaded with electric everything, and plastic wood accents" 4x4 120k mi for 2400. And the guy had it for sale for a long time. 4 inch lift kit 31 inch tires and it sold for 3 grand, and it took forever to sell.... You will also notice that allot of the high mi ones do not sell.... I would be interested in it if it's 4x4. Pm me

I have been looking for one of these myself. Post up some pics and a price and I might have to make a trek to the other end of the state.

If the link works it is a list of ebay solds...
If it's really super clean I'd guess 4500-5500 is realistic

If it's as nice as nice as you say, I'd wager $5-6k. It's really hard to find anything genuinely nice for under $5k, and the classic Cherokee has some collector appeal.

I had one...wouldn't have another. Rode terrible, loud interior, felt cheap...not a fan of them but some do like them a lot. Now, an old wagoner is a different story entirely,
