Engine Masters (youtube) did a very interesting dyno test of headers versus 'crushed headers'.
It was amazing how much damage they had to do to the headers before output dropped off. The reverse is likely true. More sound than horsepower. <iframe width="1280" height="720" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/azPKIjxmmdU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I had a hopped up early '60s 'stang in HS, with a nice 289. I put some kind of white powder coated headers on it (along with a lot of other mods) and the guy helping me get them in insisted that on the driver's side, we pound the engine compartment side wall in about 1" in one area, rather that try to pound the header flat. interesting video. |
another thing to note, Bafoon

juan. Thank you so much for the compliment. I worked for 5.5 years, transforming the car form a completely stock, all original '76 to what it is today.
I did every bit of it myself, my own two hands, in my driveway, and then later on, painted once I had built the garage around it. While I have my eye on a few barn finds here in my area, I will not ever part with this one. (fingers crossed guys, right?) so how about the 3.0L you had? was it pretty much stock? And how does somebody rationalize going from a 3.0 to a TT993....because the 3.0 was too much to handle? That's not true is it? |
I do have to give props to Chris for what he has done with the car. At least from the pics it looks like quality work.
Chris: I am wondering if you kept the stock 2.7 that you had such high praise of back when you first got it? |
when I here Troll I think of everyone friend Pushingmyluck! Lol. I think that was his screen name?

Once I fixed the sloppy distributor on that engine, it was singing like the detuned, passive injected, RS motor it really is. In fact, that engine, along with a pair of these "SSI" headers that some are or really aren't talking about on occasion in this thread at times, would be really really fun in an early (or even later) 911. Maybe like one of the ones I know about here locally that might be in my possession soon. Maybe I should have held on to that one, uh? Then again, there was usually a drop of oil on the floor under it. I couldn't really have that now, could I. Which reminds me......It's time for gramps to go get under his engine and polish the oil return tubes with a tooth brush and some 6K grit paste. I just couldn't stand the fact that there are some folks here who might disapprove of the fact that its been a week since I last attended to them. Oh the shame..... |

I gave up the racing after six seasons as the costs were no longer sustainable. I was spending between $10-12k per year for six or seven race weekends with tires, entry, brakes & transmissions work every two years even after the car had been developed. so, the other 45 weekends a year the car sat in the garage waiting to go on the trailer... it was brutal. found the tt (its a 996tt) and paid exactly what I got for the spec racer and have been enjoying it most every weekend since the 1st of the year. it is one monster of a car above 3500 rpm instilling little confidence with the lean of the stock suspension. I have to this point put semi solid motor & trans mounts, have a set of adjustable ARB's that I am going to install this weekend. working toward a full coilover set up, but there are a number of $500-1000 bits required for the CO swap that I am installing incrementally to spread the cost out. the ARB, front tower monoballs, adjustable drop links to name a few. will get it out to the track in the next couple months for the first time for some DE lapping. some rides to scare friends and family a bit.:D as the video shows IMO I handled it quite capably. if anything, to this point the tt is a bit much to handle, but in time it too will be conquered on a track where drivers go to drive a fast car fast. jb |
hey, about the 2 minute mark, the worked there with the grey car on your right was really nice.
When I watched it last night, I actually had to stop and rewind it because, I thought I had missed something. Very cool, calm driving juan. I saw the 03 and for some reason must have thought it a 993. Anyway, I have a friend in Atlanta who has one of the TT996, and yeah....it's fast for sure. I would bet that car is going really go once you get it to where you want it to be..... any pics of videos of it? Do you think you'll document with pics your suspension work? |

hear hear!!! and thanks mandue......ya know a year or so ago, someone asked if I had a build thread.... I don't, but with all this posting in a bullschit thread......ya know, maybe my time is better spent showing the board what I've built with all the awesome info and guidance I've found here. I got to admit though, this thing here is kinda like a train wreck, awful to see, but I can't help but look. |

chris, thanks for the appreciation of my work :D where I note at the outset that it's the most peacefoo moment of the day is so very true. all the butterflies that would have been fluttering around my gut the previous couple hours all dissipate right then and there.
if you've got an hour to kill check the build thread for my car here >>>>> http://forums.pelicanparts.com/california-southwest-us-az-nv/443725-plunge.html please excuse the writing in thread. by the time I came in to the computer to document a day's or weekend's work I fir sure had a few, in some cases a few too many... a couple shots of the new to me turbo.. some work shots from my pops' garage and then a glam shot in his driveway.. the third one is not glam, but was out on a canyon carve I did a few weeks back. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1459024542.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1459024581.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1459024611.jpg no video from the tt yet. ive only road driven it so there's not really anything worth collecting... im no street racer;) |

ehehehehehe....hey, did you read the first post in the thread? so hey rattlsnak, you are one of the guys I've been reading for years now...but I don't think we've every communicated directly...so hi, nice to meet you. Somewhat local to you, so maybe we've actually met. anyway......I think I know what caused me to start posting in this ****ed up thread. Sometimes when I get to work a little early, or need to take a break, I'll go over to the tech forum, and just open a bunch of threads in tabs across the top, and read and close as I go. well, I guess it was Thursday morning, I must have accidently opened this thread. Don't remember doing it, but when I started reading, I was like: "what is this?" "o.k" I thought. I like hearing about crazy goings on on the road as much as the next guy (again, almost like that train wreck thing.) When I finished reading Bafoon's post, All I could think about was standing on the side of the road with my little girl, and being in a state of panic by what he says he did. I was thinking of how just that morning I sat on her bed listening to her breathing before I left for work. I started thinking of what is something had gone wrong for this guy and he accidently wiped this family out? What if instead of them, it was my wife and daughter here in TN that was plowed into by some manic in a porsche. I mean, like I've said, I am sure we all make questionable decisions on the road at times, perhaps we drive faster than we should, take those chances that almost always work out. No harm no foul... but then to freaking brag about this particular situation? On WAYNE'S SITE? I just had to open my mouth. Glad I did. I didn't even know this Bafoon existed. I had never notice any of his threads in the past. (now I know why, they really are not of any technical value, and surely did not play any part in the development of my car....) I looked him up, checked out a little of his history on this BBS. It's not much of one. Sure, more post than me, but whatever. And it's quite obvious by reading his post in his own thread here, and the others I've checked out, like I said earlier in this thread....he brings nothing but the weakest of sauces to table. weak weak stuff man. I just noticed something else. The gentleman named juan? He states in his sig that he breeds zebra finches!! How cool is that, right? BUT.....what does our Bafoon do? check it out, he replies to him with this: "I missed the part where I said whether I have raced or not. Yes 2 wheels, on dirt and track, 4 wheels on track and we will see about wings. So while I have been racing almost all of my life, I have never felt the need to use it as a qualifier. But, do show us pictures of your racing finches......" AND.....AND....this is the idiot with a FAKE quote in his sig. |

hey hey, that one is black on black right? If I could have any combo on the 996, that would be it. That is (just my opinion) the quintessential example of the 996 era of the 911!! gorgeous juan. just gorgeous. hey, tell us about your birds! |
Wow, i'm coming in late to this thread, but it sure appears as if either High school is on break for the week, and Junior is home and bored, or someone got ahold of daddy's Porsche and scared some little kids, which for some reason, made him feel bigger than the boy he is.

I love sharing my driving stories man! I've got a short book's worth of them. Oh, and let me just say at this point to everybody......please please do not attempt to perform any photography in the manner in which I did this morning. It requires many years of training and is incredibility risky. Unfortunately, it can only be attempt on public roads. Any attempt to do so at a track would probably result in being booted from whatever event it is you are participating. |

Hey, here is a quick pic
of another road this morning:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1459027040.jpg this one goes on for a few miles like this. Fresh black top. One other road coming in during that time. But..........there are many homes back off the road here. Homes of people I wouldn't want to piss off. Because I don't think booger has any twins up here in this mountain community. He is very well known by the local authorities and they would know exactly where to find him. So on a technical note.....one can travel this road at 3500rpm, and really work the car well. Pull some type of bull**** like Bafoon does (or at least says he does) around the residents? Your done. I don't care who you are....your done. But, get on the breaks quick, shut the throttle, and you get wide eyed stares and thumbs up with smiles. THAT Bafoon......is for me, just one of the more enjoyable moments of owning and driving a race car like Porsche. spreading joy and nostalgia, not bull**** and terror. are you beginning to understand where some of us are coming from? |

are you going to be there? speaking of the wife....I've got to go. later on guys. |
and now for something completely different.
installing a disposal with the aide of a floor-jack. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1459029947.jpg the birds are cool, but im installing a garbage disposal... ill get to that now that you've asked when I have a moment.. jb |

The best way to kill off a troll is to ignore them. I encourage everyone to post whatever they like but don't make any reference to the OP.
Chris: let me know if the club goes for a drive at the Tail. I haven't been there since last fall and its time to get acquainted again. |
taaa freakin daaa!! disposal is installed and prepared to take the leavins from next meal... used a slice of radiator hose to inner face the old to new.. the paper on the floor of the cabinet says no leaks! booooo-yaaaah!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1459037548.jpg so, here are the ARB's ill be installing on the TT tomorrow at my folks house. nice going to the country of north Monterey county to spent time with my pops in his shop.. the lift helps... they are GMG hollow units that come with bushings and use the stock drop links... allegedly..;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1459037699.jpg so the birds, got a pair after rehabbing and freeing a dove my cat got to last spring. they have has 2 broods now having 3 & 4 chicks. they are very entertaining and sing constantly. kinda messy at times, but as the weather warms up they spend more time outside. hard keeping the offspring from makin kin on kin love and have dump two clutches of eggs from the offspring cage. when im high I will sit watching & listening to them for longer than I should, but they are very relaxing. I have moved on a few of the ones hatched here to a local lady I found on craigs list that has an aviary type breeding operation. im trying to sort thru the remaining 4 I have to find a couple males that are brothers, therefore will get along and keep just them. my pops says it's the latin in me as both his pops and grand pops raised a variety of finches and canaries when he was a boy. I tried to give him a couple and he passed... thinking about getting a goat. any thoughts? |
and oh yeah, only the males really really sing. the females just make lil noises at times... less pretty plumage as well.
I will also post some pics tomorrow of the ARB install in an effort to get this thread right.. |

hey, nice job on the garbage disposal. I will need to be doing the same in the house we just moved into end of last year. It would clunk and then hum when I flipped the switch. I was going to put some PB blaster in it, and then try to coax is with a screw driver or wrench or something, but when I went to test again before doing this, it wasn't doing any thing. So I just left it. No biggie, as we didn't have one in the last place.
Pretty straight forward I would imagine? I like birds man. Always have. We have a huge red tail hawk in my back yard here. The next door neighbors told us that he has been living in our back yard for about three years. We are the first people to live in this house since they said he moved back there. So, he is watching us with much interest. Last week I was about 30 yards in the back yard, and was watching my wife and girl on the deck when he came around the side of the house with his swing spread to about a 3ft span. it was a very slow glide and eerily silent. I **** you not, he went right over my wife's head and then casually continued on towards me with his head sorta cocked. He was looking right at me as he went about ten feet above my head. Then on down the hill he turned and went. Not one flap of the wings. Left quite an impression on me. Now, there are two more hanging around. We see them circling each other and screeching. Usually one or two will stay up high. I can tell they are gaming each other. Occasional quick turns and then an eventual dive towards another. doesn't seem too aggressive or anything. More like a territorial game or something. But very cool to watch. |
there is a nesting pair of redtails here that have set up shop on the veranda of a local 5 story dot-com company. the last two years the company has set up a camera fixed on the nest. much like the finches I found myself mesmerized watching the feed as the babies grew. the nest is out by the landfill water treatment plant so they fed on a variety of vittles. the parents brought back rats, squirrel, snakes, & lizards that they would devour. late in the season they somehow flung dung (remaining on topic) on the lens of the camera really short circuiting the show. the company leaves the nest, cleans the building after they vacate & have promised a better camera position & streaming effort. if they return this year on camera I will link it right here in DDB's one shinning moment (march madness hoops reference) thread...

chris, I don't know which way the water spins down a drain in the volunteer state, but out here in California no plumbing job is as strait forward as it seems at the outset... go ahead, take yir bag of old parts with you to the store in a ziplock 4qt sized bag and no matter what you have to make a second trip. plumbing is always a two store trip minimum...
since I watched the finches some before I started the project I could not make a second trip to the store safely, hence the radiator hose and a couple hose clamps from my collection. I m gunna watch the finches somemore, right after I bookmark this, my new favorite thread, ever! |

here are just a few of the pics from last year.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1459043841.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1459043852.jpg The black gullwing is an all original car. original red leather. original paint. and original owner. He told me he drives it all over the country. If I recall correctly, he said he had just returned from some type of gathering in Colorado! They also had an M1, and several Porsche. there was an incredible '73s. |
The owner was really really cool
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1459044115.jpg
When he told me about the leather, I had to ask him if I could touch it. He said...."yeah, hold on a second." He reached in and flipped a switch that folded the steering wheel down. then he said " hop in!!" I had never thought about it, but you can't get in with the steering wheel in the driving position! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1459044412.jpg This gentleman was so cool. He talked to me for about 15minutes, while I sat in his car checking the controls, shifter, etc..... Really, the whole event is super laid back with its fair share of what most of us, I am sure, would consider very high end cars. |
