Unbelievable. Spring is in the air. And that means. Turkey
Opening morning maņana. It's go time. House projects can suck it. I'm going to find some quiet time.
Good luck bird chasers. I'm giving my pellet gun a go. ![]() Sent via Jedi mind trick.

Came upon a few big Tom's putting on a show for a hen with the dog last week. He was ready for a turkey breakfast.

Soooooooooooooooo jealous. Our season doesn't open till April 18th. I just put my game cam out a few weeks ago but I had pics all during deer season. Naturally once Turkey season comes in the birds will go away.

I thought this thread was about something else!
We have a huge town turkey problem here. I think they're getting close to allowing bow hunting within city limits to deal with the situation. Although, the cougars have started showing up in town lately, so they may solve the problem for us.

Any tips for a new turkey hunter in Ohio? I've seen turkeys while deer hunting. What kind terrain makes the best hunting?

We have what seem like pickup truck loads of guys in fatigues riding up & down our road looking for turkeys. The losers are too lazy to get out of their trucks. Plus, the turkeys - no matter now dumb they seem - disappear during this time.

I've seen a turkey tear into a dog with its beak and both feet while beating it to a pulp with its wings. That poor dog was lucky to get out alive.
About a month ago at sunrise I noticed clumps in the trees at least 30' feet up. Those things are not delicate when it's time to come down, either. Last edited by Crowbob; 03-27-2016 at 03:40 PM.. |

Now in 993 land ...
|
So?
My intel is "no gobbling" yet. May delay my first trip to later in April. They have to be in the mood, even for shotgun range ... it makes the difference between sitting around falling asleep between calling and going home 30 minutes into the hunt with a bird per gun. G |

Good luck, vash. I'm envious.
So, the pellet rifle - is that a Marauder? It's obviously a PCP, but what caliber, what pellet are you going to use, etc.? How many foot pounds can that thing generate? I'm assuming head shots at somewhat limited range...

no success.
one big tom did strut by, leaving me adrenalin amped up and shaking. my knee was chattering for 15 mins. too much human activity (plowing and cattle men) and way too many real hens to compete with. i'm sticking with it. i have a freebie winery hunt coming up. love it when the grape guys need the toms knocked back. Jeff. my pellet rifle is a Hatsun AT44. from Turkey (the country..hey weird coincidence) .22 caliber. shooting a 19 grain pellet at 850fps. at 15 yards i can hit the same hole. i'm going for an eye ball shot.

Just be aware that they have good eyesight. Where I hunt it's pretty flat. You want to see if you can identify a "strut zone" and if at all possible do some owl or crow calls to locate where they're roosting.
