Air Bag Recall

Our 2011 BMW is part of it, BUT...the dealership said not only do they not have the repair parts, they haven't been designed yet.

My neighbor, Acura is giving them a three month car rental until the parts get in for their 2014 RDX.

Anyone else affected?

Our Honda Ridgeline is now 37 days at the dealer and Honda is providing a rental. Possibly 2 more months is what I was told.....We do like the Chevy Malibu though.

They replaced the sodium-azide inflator with ammonium nitrate. The problem: ammonium nitrate likes water. With the moisture infiltrating the mechanism, it can inflate more which breaks up the mechanism and throws shards of metal along with the air bag.

The issue is the worst in areas which are very humid and very hot. So yeah...Houston.

Something like 30 million cars are affected

It took many months to get the passenger side done on my 04 BMW. It's taken even longer on the drivers side. I heard a similar story....parts not available yet.

Apparently, de-activating the airbag to stop it from killing you is not an allowed reason for deactivation.

Some of the manufacturers have waivers

The fix for exploding airbags may be more deadly than the problem - Oct. 31, 2014

I got the recall notice Sat. informing me that my car can kill me without warning at any time. My 2011 CRV with 110,000 miles has been about the only Honda model not on the recall lists until just recently. So, as directed, I'm planning to visit my dealer this week to "discuss my specific needs" .... I'm sure this will go very smoothly and they will happily provide me with a comparable vehicle

I'm alive because of them, but that was a head curtain bag and not a steering wheel bag which my seat belt would have covered.

Ditto on my '04 BMW. Been waiting since July for the driver's airbag. Just got a notice that my 128i has a Takata recall now.

Whatever used Takata cars they had on their dealer lots, BMW has removed them from sale and they are all waiting for airbags as well.

Same vehicle here Curt. I will have my wife go into Honda and see what they say.
At least we aren't hot and humid here in Colorado
