2005 Carrera 4s?
It looks like a '04 to me, but I don't know that much about these cars. How can it be an '05?

There were a few 996s that were 2005 models. Clean looking car but very pricey, and not a huge amount of options. I see nav, full leather, parking sensors, and not much else. Interior is Metropol Blue which seems to be love/hate, I liked it in my 996TT but a lot of potential buyers didn't.

That is pretty much much what I would like to drive.
But not at that price.

OWP,
The vw dealer was not much help with option list, other than saying it originally sold at 101k. How can you tell what options it does or doesn't have? Is there a Vin decoder I can use? If I can believe the general manager at the dealership, he says the first owner special ordered and took delivery in Germany. 2nd owner had it for a brief time and traded on a vw euro van. He said when they took 4s in on trade, the owner had to pay State of Wisconsin sales tax, $6,xxx.xx because he never paid sales tax when he registered it when he brought it back from Germany. Sounded odd, but not sure he'd make that story up. Car is very clean. I definitely like the 4s looks compared to a regular 996. I don't even mind the lights and prefer the wheels to the 997. What would you say a reasonable price for this car is. Thanks.

Joe, I have had a bunch of 996s so I have a pretty good idea of options just looking at the pictures. To me that's a $32k car tops. At the current price you are really close to comparable 996TT pricing, and the 996 cab models always sell for less than the coupes. The hard top is a nice bonus, and it is missing the front tow hook cover.

I would disagree, 996's other than turbos should be in the $20K's at this time

I agree. The price should start with a '2'.

I'm betting it's hard buy a less than 50k mile, 1 owner, no excuses 996 4s, 6sp cabriolet under $30k. Especially this time of year.
I agree the one I posted is high priced. Up here in MN I would guess it gets bought closer to What OWP suggested. Not saying that's worth it, but it's a sweet car for sure. Might have to get my '85 Carrera on the market.

Low mileage C4S have held their value quite well, even wholesale.

As pointed out, all turbo and "S" models were still 996s in 2005. I drove a mint, stock 996 C4S back when I had my 996 and it felt like a barge in comparison. Really heavy and slow. Nice looking, though.
I just passed on a pretty nice 2009 997.2 6-speed coupe, 72k miles, one owner and absolutely loaded silver/black for $32k asking last week. That's a direct injection late 997. Just as a point of reference.

Denis, if that car is still available call me. And remember me the next time you stumble across something tasty like that.

This is buying a 996 for a 997 price. Big mistake.

Wouldn't a 996 be easier to deal with the IMS servicing than say an '06-'08? A '09 or newer is above my reach.
I've never really given a 996 much of a look, but the 4S has my attention. I'm looking for a top down experience my wife can use as well. My '85 is not too comfortable for a couple hundred mile drive...at least not for her. |

When I say that I passed, I should clarify that I was hemming and hawing on it and someone else bought it. But I passed in the sense that I had a week when I could have snapped it up and I did not pull the trigger. It had some issues, (complete factory quality respray due to tornado damage, supposedly just branches hit it and scratched the hell out of it), but clean title with sport chrono, navigation and heated, adaptive sport seats and full leather! Here is another at RAC, (formerly RUF), in Texas. Same regular Carrera coupe with less equipment, (but only 23k miles!), only bid to $30k: I'm sure it's still there. These cars are cheap. Asking prices might not be but no one is buying them for the high prices. Cash in hand gets you a smoking deal. ![]()

Exactly.

There is an argument for buying a 996 or early 997 due to the replaceable ISB but not for a 997S price. As I showed above, if you can afford what they're asking for this car, you can afford an '09 plain 911. ![]()

If I were considering paying mid-$30k range for a water cooled 911, it would be a 996TT. I would quickly choose one of them over a 997.2 or 997S. I've never quite understood why C4S prices hover so close to TT prices, considering that the C4S is basically a fake TT. If I wanted a normally aspirated 996 it would be either a 1999 C2 because they are lightweight and raw, or a 2004 40th AE.
