Forking, hey is that some crazy LA sex act? :)

David,

If I lived in the real world I would not keep drooling over old Porsches! I know I will never be able to afford a 917!

The most dangerous part of the flight is the drive to the airport. Has been proven time and time again. The chance of another Luby's incident is very real and the chances of being shot like this are much higher than winning the lotto.

We keep having them from time to time and just a few months ago in Tucson we had a student go into a college and kill three of his teachers because he was not happy with them. This type of thing can and will happen and if guns are completely banned, then some nut will use a machete or knife or baseball bat.

If you guys are happy and feel safe without a weapon, more power to you. Its kinda like driving around without a fire ext. in your car. I keep one because three times now I have stopped and put out a fire in other peoples car. Hope I never need it myself but its sure come in handy and saved three cars so far. Not having one is asking for problems in my book and my book is the one that I go by. You guys have another book and hope it works for you!

BTW, in Singapore now and typing at 0400 in the morning. Jet lag and Pelican work well together! :) I have the time to look at old posts!

Wow. All this started because Clay wanted to know what to keep in his glove box? I'd hate to see the result if he asked for something controversial, like "what tires do you run and at what PSI?"

And the worst part is, I'm one of the guys with the firearm in the glovebox.

I will add one little pro-gun comment. Back in Canada (note my funny spelling) there are really strict gun laws. Nobody is allowed to carry any firearm. True story in Toronto: We have a blind man walking through the park with his seeing eye dog. He hears another dog and asks out loud, "Is your dog on a leash?". Instead of answering they set their pitbull on him.

A gun wouldn't have made any difference to him; after all he is blind. But if I had been walking through the park with my PPKS, there would have been one less pitbull in the world, and maybe less pain for the poor guy.

I don't see myself beating the bad guy to the draw in a High Noon contest. But there are times when violence is the final answer to an argument; isn't that why we have armies? So I would rather be the guy with the biggest stick when an argument does turn nasty. And has been noted earlier in this post, when I am carrying I am the most polite person. I have no "who is stronger" testosterone issues to prove. I already know the answer to that: Mr. Walther.

I can't believe this thread is still going.

Will this ever end?

Very sad

Last night, a family friend died in my brother's arms when he was shot and killed by burglars. Yet another killed by this gun-crazy mentality we have in the United States.

Sounds like he needed a gun to defend himself against them. Anyone breaks in my house they will look like swiss cheese when I get done.

Jared at Pelican Parts 01-09-2003 09:37 AM

Randy,

they "pried his gun from his cold dead hand" I believe that is the expression.

ironically, they were stealing guns from him, thats why they shot him dead.

Randy803 01-09-2003 10:07 AM

Thats rough I hate to hear it. Evil people have always and will always exist and they will always have weapons in one form or another. If he wasnt shot he would have been stabbed or beaten to death. Guns are tools the people behind them like anything else cause the suffering. This will be my last post on this subject as I really havent anything left to say on it. Thanks to everyone who spoke thier mind pro and con we still all have to live in the same world and maybe through a greater understanding of each other we can make it better.

Joeaksa 01-09-2003 12:46 PM

Jared,

Sorry to hear about your friend. That the criminals were trying to steal anything would be enough for a law abiding citizen to defend their lives and property. I truely hope that the police find the killer and put him in jail for life, or even better, an "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" would make sure that this does not happen to another family by eliminating this criminal from the food chain. People like this need to be eliminated from society.

Randy,

Completely agree. If there are no guns, then the criminals will use something else to threaten, extort and if necessary, hurt or kill innocent citizens, and they will always try to get the upper hand to do their dirty business. When we, the law abiding public, are not allowed to be at least on an equal par with the criminals, then we all will be victims unless their is a policeman stationed at every house in the country. This has been proven in every country in the world where the world has been made a "safer place" by the government when they took the public's ability to defend themselves by banning weapons.

Agree as well that this will be my last post on this thread as we will never convince others who feel that the police can and will be able to protect them at all times. I, like yourself, feel that I am safer being on an equal par with anyone threatening myself or my family and until the law enforcement is able to rid the criminals of each and every weapon in their possession, I will protect myself and my family with every tool at my disposal, be it a baseball bat or .45 auto.

Also hope that everyone remembers that this "gun crazy" mentality as it was called started in 1776 when we used these guns to free ourselves from the British, 1941 when we used the same guns to help stop the holocast in Germany and the "rape of Nanking" and take over of most of the Pacific by the Japanese. We lose more people every year in America due to drunk driving accidents than weapons yet I can almost guarantee that the vast majority of the people on this have at one time in the last few years driven a car after having a drink. We can all improve our lives and the world around us and focusing entirely on guns being "the problem" is shortsighted. Hope we will broaden our viewpoint and let the gun issue rest.

Joe

Thank you for the kind words. It's gonna be hard on my brother, as he is the one who found our friend and died as he was waiting for an ambulance.

From what i understand, the police already have a suspect.
