AC/DC Fired Brian Johnson?

Has Brian Johnson Been 'Kicked to the Curb' by AC/DC?

Waiting for "the other side" of the story before passing judgement but if they did treat him this shoddily after 40 years then **** them.

They'll never see another penny of my money.

stuartj 04-18-2016 05:12 PM

If this is true, this is really shoddy. Axl Rose with ACDC is ridiculous.

Time to hang up the SG Angus, and go out unbowed.

PorscheGAL 04-18-2016 05:13 PM

ACDC announced that Axl Rose will take over lead vocals. I had tickets to see them in Greenville. i got a refund. i have no desire to see Axl Rose butcher the songs (if he shows up at all).

AC/DC is my number one band, and has been for as long as I can remember. More of a Brian fan than a Bon fan as well. No disrespect to Brian, but Axl sounded fairly decent from the videos coming out of Coachella this weekend. I'm no fan of Axl, he's ok, but I also didn't have any interest in him front Brian's band until hearing what they're putting out. Axl at least still has his voice. That could not be said for a multitude of bands from that era. IE, Vince Neil should've retired years ago. It could be worse. If I had my choice, i'd pick Brian, but I don't think that's an option anymore......

I met Brian Johnson at the Rolex 24 one year....he's an avid sports car guy and actually races some lower tiered version. He was super nice and very approachable.

I had heard this morning that he was benched because of a medical (hearing). Is that just spin?

KNS 04-18-2016 05:50 PM

Dr. told him if he keeps performing he will have permanent hearing damage.

According to him he got a 2nd opinion that conflicted with the first diagnosis.

He called the guys, never heard back and all his stuff / luggage from the tour showed up unannounced in his driveway.

Yeah cause Axl is such a good choice, look at how well he did leading GNR... - green font

I actually didn't know or even suspect Axl was still alive - figured he'd been found on the floor of some crack house years ago. Sad - I love ACDC but this will pretty much ruin it. They'll go on tour and Axl will no-show as usual and piss off a lot of fans. Leopards don't change their spots - he's a useless drunk and will always be.

Yeah, the videos of Axl at Coachella were surprisingly good. I had very low expectations, but he was excellent. I know there's a lot more to this than Brian retiring for health reasons. But it looks like Axl is gonna do it the music some justice.

We have a local guy who sings in a Bon Scott-era AC/DC tribute and he's as good as Bon. I kind of wish Angus would find him on Youtube and make the call.

They flew in the singer and guitar player (who I know) from Back In Black to audition. Dallas AC/DC tribute band.

Axl Rose was excellent in GNR, when he showed up. He was notoriously late or absent for a good number of concerts. Youtube has videos of the fan riots and destruction because of that. He has been missing from touring since that time. It is a risk.

I am amazed the story that the band and Brian Johnson did not even speak. All the communication was through messages. After 30 years together, you would think they would at least have a conversation before a decision was made.

GH85Carrera 04-19-2016 04:16 AM

I am a big fan of AC/DC. They are one of the few bands if not the only one that have more than a couple of CDs and not one sone that I dislike or flat out hate.

Even the Beatles and the Stones have some clunker songs. AC/DC has the a great list of songs.

From what I heard Brian damaged his hearing in one of his cars. He failed to use the earplugs under his helmet and can into the pits with blood coming out of his ears. As least one doctor told him if he goes on tour and is exposed to the loud noises he could be deaf in short order. If he is really out of the band it is the sad end of an era.

According to official story, Brian is deaf. Texts would work better anyway. ;) Not too sure on the veracity of this claim, I'm sure after decades of 110dB performances there was a lot gone already.

I would love to see them replace with a Bon Scott voice. Always loved that guy's wink at the camera persona. I always assumed it was Brians vocal cords that would go first.

Just an opinion (and we know what they say about opinions ;) )

But 40 years is a long time to be on the road.

My job is no where as stressful as what those guys do and I'm counting the days to hit 20 years so I can retire.

Just sayin...

PS, have any of you seen "The Last Waltz?'

craigster59 04-19-2016 06:52 AM

Well, looks like these guys are going to have to carry the torch.....

It did go already. If you watch concerts from the 90's, he can hit the notes. Then skip to 2000 and on wards, and all of a sudden he can't hit the high notes in thunderstruck etc... It's hardly surprising though.

I really like the guy. I've always loved ACDC, and to be honest I think I liked the Brian music more than the Bon Scott stuff, but Brian's vocal chords have left the building.

If he's been treated harshly, that's a shame. Always seemed like a very nice guy.

From all the youtube footage I've seen of this current GnR "reunion" tour, Axl has mellowed considerably. I've yet to see any rants and usual behavior associated with him. He's been all smiles and even used the term "lovely" at Coachella, lol. He has lost some of the power of his voice but I can tell he is trying hard and isn't phoning it in. I have no doubt that he will toe the line if he wants to play with Angus and co.
