Very common. You can tell by going to the local high school, and seeing the 3/4 tons with farm plates... Some schools even have take your tractor to school day.

My parents were really mean and cruel. They taught me that if I wanted to drive, it was not going to be in one of their cars. I was forced to work my ass off and earn the money to buy my very own car. My mean parents only paid for my room and board, all the food I could eat (which was a lot for a 140lb active 16 year old boy) free laundry service, and they paid for my insurance until I turned 18. I had to pay for 100% of the cost of operating the car. Dang they were cruel. Of course that work ethic is how I ended up custom ordering my new 1974 914 2.0 when I was 19.

Possibly this. She could have just put the ad in Craiglist without the commentary.

I think there are a few possibilities with this situation:

1) Mom was really frustrated and it came out in the ad. Mom is really trying to do the right thing with an out-of-control daughter. The daughter still may not learn the right lessons anytime soon, but the mom is doing the right things. The daughter either repents (unlikely in my opinion) or gets even more wild and ends up out of that house with two years pregnant, a runaway, an addict, or worse. I've not seen many kids get successfully reeled back in at this point.

2) Mom is using this situation to get attention for herself. If that's the case, the daughter is truly screwed, as she's probably been competing with her mom for attention for a little while. If mom is the kind of person who turns every situation with her daughter into something about her, then I don't see healthy life lessons being learned.

Did any one of you listen to the video before you passed judgement that mom is an "attention whore?" She sure doesn't come off that way, and to say you are "the meanest Mom" shows that she feels guilty for having to take the action of selling the truck.

After watching the video and seeing the truck I feel mom is more merciful than mean.
